It was once explained to me by a black friend that it's something whites cannot take away from them. 'Nigga' is endearment to be used by them, for them and whites that do so are looked down upon.

My friend said 'they've taken everything away from us, this they cannot have'.

Being white makes you a bigot. Black,hispanic and asian comedians have plenty of racist jokes and observations about race and liberals love it. If you are white you can't even support a secure border without being called a hate fueled white devil. Have you ever seen a black or latino comedian who isnt completely obsessed with racial slurs and insults, even of other races to which they don't belong. Not saying I don't think the material isn't funny, but laughing at these jokes might get me accused of being a bigot.

The thing is that the only thing that happens if these words get used is certain people get offended.

So what we are in essence doing is legislating against other people being offended. Once the objective is not to offend people, restriction of free speech is not far behind.

It wouldn't have the same meaning coming from anybody other than another black person.

I suppose fat white women can call each other fat. A guy who says the same thing to a fat white woman would not get a good reception. Its a matter of context. I'd ask the guy who did that or the white person who called a black person a nigger, why they would gratuitously insult anybody?
