Do I need magnifying lens, if so, what strength

Yes you would need a magnifying lens or microscope or loupe at least 30x to view the trichromes of your plant

Ebay is my place, but I'd go for anything over 30 power

I keep two on hand. The 40x gives you a great overall view.
