sweet test cali, waiting for hps weight. to bad about the bushmaster, guess i will stay away from it.I'm really sick of people talking shit about others being a sales rep or getting the stuff for free. who cares, this guy did a side by side test and was very nuetral on led vs hps.i thought the test was sweet and really enjoyed all the pics. get those boxes ready and lets see another side by side soon. thanks for sharing cali. +rep bigtime

super nice comparison grow man, I've like the others been looking everywhere for a good comparison grow. Thanks for the effort into creating a definitive answer to hps vs led.

The buds themselves look fantastic. Great job there! :bigjoint:

Having said that, 120g from 600w is pretty poor - so poor in fact that surely noone would want to buy those LED units, regardless of price.

I decided to mess around with CFLs in my last grow to see what all the fuss was about and got 170g dry, high quality bud from 400w of CFLs. And the lights themselves only cost less than 5% of the Lumigrows.

I am NOT hating, just pointing out what is available for a LOT less money.

there's a whooole lot of variables involved and Im sure his yield c/wouldve improved if it wasnt for the bushmaster, or his environment couldve been a little less optimal(not saying it wasnt) than when you grew with cfl's, or he couldve been growing a low to mid yielder while you couldve been growing something like ssh or ak or something yielding much more. my point is there are just too many variables to conclude that led's arent worth the $$

HARVEST WEIGHT UPDATE!

the HPS results are in. 130 grams, DRY and TRIMMED. the HPS buds are much more fluffy compared to the LED. they do have a bit more size to them though. lets peep some pics.

_

both bags next to each other. HPS on the left, LED on the right.

i wish i had a better camera, or even a usb scope, so i can zoom way in. my camera just gets fuzzy when i try and get in close. i will have to invest in better equipment for next rounds pics.

i wanted to bring up the results from the last round of testing, with only one ES unit. i yielded 107 grams. same amount of plants, but in one container. i used a 2x3 smart bin as the container. i also had the ES unit at 20+ inches above the canopy for the majority of flower. i finally brought it down closer later into flower. i only used 2.5 ml of BushMaster, and didnt notice any stress. must have something to do with more of a 'buffer' zone in the beds. also, the LED side suffered the worst from the BushMaster overdose, and only yielded 10 grams less than the HPS, which bounced right back after the BushMaster application. so, that right there shows how the test was compromised due to the overdose......kicking myself, i swear.

let me throw up some pics from last round with the one ES unit.

here is a pic right before they got the axe...under white light.

a couple more shots.

for more pics, look up my last test entitled "LumiGrow ES 330w LED Test".

i will be doing round 2 of the challenge after this next round of testing. i will only use regular nutes, without any supplements. for the next test i am going to put the 2 units in between 3 1000w HPS. so essentially like this _^_^_ , the "_" being HPS, and the "^" being the ES units. i will use 4x4 soil beds. the center bed will be getting perfect uniform coverage from both ES units and the HPS, while the beds on either end will be getting half coverage of the LED. i will let yall know when its up and running. i just have to plant out the beds and throw up the LEDs. when i get a better camera or a usb scope i will post some comparison pics of the buds from both sides.

only a 10 g difference is almost not even significant. but still low low yields. maybe veg longer

Wow, that side by side comparison shot tells a LOT. I'm amazed at the difference in stretch and how the LED maintained so much more even of a canopy. I really wish you had that better camera so we could see those close up bud shots. Now, my question is did the LED plant change that color from the bushmaster or what's up with that.?

calli i would personaly like to thank you for having the courage to experiment with leds. i truly believe leds are still in there infancy. every led manufacturer is trying to figure out the right combination of spectrums, angles, and watttages to use for peak performance. there is alot of garbage led companies out there giving leds a bad rap. thankfully there is also a few companies putting out a quality product as well. it takes alot of courage to think outside the box. we all know hid works and gives excellent results.this fact is udebatable however, theres also a ton of draw backs. electrical consumption, heat, bulb replacement, etc. its very unpleasant to see so many haters out there slamming an led thread just because a yield was low for whatever reason. i believe everyone experimenting with leds should be commended for there pioneering efforts. it wasnt that long ago when people were growing with low quality street lamps to grow there yummies. it wont be long before leds surpass hids.soooo calli thank you for spending your well earned dollars to perform this test and providing your honest results. im done ranting. namaste

Amazing job man. I wish I could afford one of these systems. I'm really impressed at what the LED did.
