Had similar experiences with different flushes from varied strains. Temps. Sub composition. Speed of myc. And speed of fruitation (age of colonized sub) may have something to do with it. A recent dosing of which consisted of 4 grams dried Treasure Coast. 1 gram dried of Transkei and Argentina pins. And 12.5 wet grams of F+. Was chopped up (with scissors) and since they were mostly the initial flush of Treasure Coast, the mix tasted VERY much like pans.Good question actually. Pan Cyans are frail and fragile compared to the meaty Cubies. The exact opposite is true as far as chemical constituents. I've grown about 10 species of P.Cubensis over the years, and found their potency to be about "consistently average" time and time again. Quite too often, they have disappointed me, as I hate to eat an entire mouthfull of these to get a semi-satisfactory resonance. Only 1-2 times (out of 200+), did I notice that the particular (unusually small) flushes were of significantly higher than average potency (These are the IQ=160 kids, Lmao!). Once with Amazonian Strain (PF original) and once with Thai Koh - Samui. Both times the fruits were very small, colonizing and flushing quickly in very tiny- 1/8 pint jars. Colonization temps were low (62-65f) but the mycelium was vigorous nonetheless. Maybe through a combination of these environmental factors, these smaller jars seem to facilitate better gram/ per / weight potency. Maybe it's because colonization time was much faster than bigger jars, and therefore psilocin / psilocybin production was at its' peak(?). The most potent of these was a quick 1/8 pt. run of original Amazonians from Psilocybe Fanaticus I flushed in winter of 2002. I dried these rather small, funky-looking shrooms near my air-vent for 3-4 days. They dried out gently, very blue, and many were almost indigo-black. Took all of them (about 3.5 -4gm) and had an INCREDIBLY VISUAL as well as AUDITORY experience for a good 4.5 - 5.0 hours. This happened after several yrs. of experimentation and growing bored with the typical cubie experience. It was a refreshing change, that came unexpectedly. Was totally blown-away, as I had been eating cubies for about 4 yrs. at this point, and none were even close to matching the potency of this batch. Everything was melting and shape-shifting, with auditory effects to match. Strongest experience from P. Cubensis I have ever had. I am moving onward to Pan Cyans (and Copelandia Species), because I need HIGH potency per gm. Many times, the cubies were disappointing in this respect. Still, they surprised me a couple of times. The culmination of all these cubes became one of my most transendant, visual, and awakening psychedelic experiences to date. Some of the visuals were so awesome. That I was a little taken aback. Not scared. Just surprised. And this trip started 17 minutes after ingestion.
