I cannot find dolomite lime anywhere in my city (weird huh), so any other suggestions to lower soil ph? Also how do some of you lower soil ph with plants already in?

Buy a bottle of ph down from walmart, home depot, etc.
Ph your water to the proper ph and flush.

I think lime raises and stabilizes the pH. (less acidic, closer to 7)

Do you want lower pH (acidic), or higher pH (alkaline)?

right.....if you want the ph to go up, you can use baking soda...but the sodium really isnt good for the plant, a base like potassium hydroxide or calcium carbonate would be better. If you want the ph to go down, you can use vinegar...but either phosphoric acid or nitric acid would work better

walmart, home depot and none of that carries ph down. half the time the workers have no clue what i am talking about.
I am trying to LOWER my ph.

One of the nurserys had some phosphate and some other types of stuff that lowered ph but i wanted someones suggestions first.

one place had stuff like Ammonium Sulphate, Aluminum Sulphate

You can also lower the pH with Vinegar, just be careful with the mixture. I'd suggest two table spoons per gallon water and feed it to it over a week or slow. Don't lower or raise too quickly or it can induce shock.

I would not suggest using vinegar it has been shown "over the long run" that it causes mold or something like that in hydroponics...
Although it could get you by in a pinch...

The ph up and down can be found for fish tanks... At home depot for pools but the first option sounds more safe... Look where you would find tanks and pumps etc at fish store or maybe walmart...

so what about what about peat moss, cottonsead meal, sawdust?

moon are you talking about the ph up and down thats a liquid for hydroponic systems and stuff? Will hydroponic ph up and down work in soil?

i've always had problems lowering pH, and in my experiences..

sawdust/peat moss wont work to a great extent, its a nice buffer, but to actually lower soil pH, i wouldnt trust it, you lose too much soil nutrients..

the 'pH down' from Walmart was also useless.. 'a few drops' does absolutely nothing to my hard water (with a pH of 8..) what a waste of 2$

i would not recommend vinegar to anyone, it wont actually lower the soil pH.. just by pouring pH 6 water into pH 8 soil doesnt remedy a thing.. its only shocking the plants..

in the end i stopped trying to balance the pH of my water, it was a losing battle from the start so i just gave them distilled water (from the 5gallon bottles) and also switched to organic nutes... l-o-v-e-l-y

:peace:

Yes ph used for hydroponics is just that... Ph adjusters for water... I use mine to adjust my soil ph and to adjust my water and nutrient solution waterings...

For ph adjusting my soil (example soil runoff is high 7-8 i will mix enough water to leech the soil and have plenty of runoff... I will mix this water low at 5 or 4... I will place a bucket under the pot and catch the runoff as i will repeat the low ph leech until the runoff reads correctly 6.5... I will toss the water used to flush and lower the ph and flush one last time with correctly adjusted water at 6.5 and if the runoff stays at 6.5 we are good for awhile...

I do not like my ph as high as 7 so i would not use dolomite but thats just my preference and my method seems to work well, all be it time consuming... =]

And i only use store bought RO water now as i had bad salt buildup with tap water... =]
