Looking for Veteran Help! HPS Lighting Question

How is rollin guys,

I am new to this growing forum thing and also pretty new in growing marijuana. I have 1 plant (2nd grow ever, so im still learning) and is about 6 inches tall in a 2x2 area in my closet. I plan to start flowering around 12 inches. Its under one light that 120 watt plant bulb. (enough light?) I have a 70 watt HPS bulb set up i got (for a steal) and was wondering if a 70 watt HPS fixture would be enough for this plant?? should i keep my plant light AND have the HPS when i am flowering?? i appreciate all responses and criticism.

Thank You All!

With a single plant, I think you might get away with it if you keep the stuff near the bottom trimmed off and the plant overall "tight".

You could get away with it but I would upgrade to a bigger light. The smallest light I have ever used was a 175 HPS. I hope your using feminized seeds or planting more than one.

You bring up something as well...OP, how old are these bulbs? How much use on them? Besides "watts", you're looking for lumens. Bulbs lose their strength over time.

Great points!! The lights distance from the plants make a huge difference too! (Inverse Square Law) closer without burning is best!! Check the spectrum of the bulbs you're using too. If a friend has a lumens meter or even better a PAR meter then you will know what you're getting. Compare a new bulb to older ones to get an idea of how much decline has occured, 20% or more and time to replace. Use reflective materials around the plants and get a oscillating fan going. Peace! Bad...

Thanks for all the quick responses. Its a bran new light kit. never been used. i started with a clone about a week ago. Ill post some pics to show you guys. so i should keep my 120 watt plant light on top of the HPS?
