I water as needed. Usually twice a week. The finger rule works best. Stick your finger in until the far knuckle...if still wet..wait..if dry then usually water within a day. Remember you want your soil to have a chance to be dry to promote the roots to grow and breath. too much water in never good. you just have to find a balance.

Have you considered to maximize oxygen to water everyday (2x) with half the amount (0.5x) ? Theoretically it will keep roots at the sweet spot
