Looking For Ideas On How To Regulate The Temps In My Grow Room.

I am having a big issue in my grow room... My temps are all over the place, and I am not sure what to do.

I am using a 424 CFM inline exhaust fan to create ample circulation. I am pulling intake from the adjacent room which is heated during the winter and air cooled (central air) during the summer.

In order to regulate temperatures I use a combination of opening and closing the window and/or heat vent in the room that I am getting my intake from (I am in Michigan, and it's 10F-40F this time of year).

Basically if it is too warm I open the window wider and close the heat vent some, and when its too cold I close the wincow some and open the heat vent some.

As the temps change outside from 10-40F I have to continously check on my temps and adjust accordingly, which is a huge pain in the ass.

I am hoping you guys can give me some insights on what you do to control your temps.... I was thinking something like a fan controller with a thermostat (can someone recommend a cheap solution for this?) to turn the exhaust fan off when it's under a certain temp, and on when it starts getting too hot in the room.... and then add a window AC unit in the adjacent room to keep my intake temps down in the summer.

I kind of do the same thing. my cool tube stops the temp from going up much. that way I use the hvac to regulate temps. room stays 75-80 depending on where the temp is set.

I don't have cooltubes on my lights unfortunately, couldn't afford it when I bought them, and it will be a few months before I can afford it...

If I just had a simple solution for turning the fan on when it gets too hot in my grow room, it would solve the problem for me, but I can't afford a $200 controller at the moment.

Anyone have any ideas of how I can control my fan based on temps for cheaper?

I just found this on ebay, does anyone know how well these works? Or able to recommend anything cheaper that would do the same thing?

Cruise Temp Cooling and Heating Thermostat

The Cruise Temp CT-EC Cooling and Heating Thermostat has a gas filled coil for amazing reliability.
It comes prewired for cooling, but can easily be switched to operate heating devices by simply switching one wire.
The Cruise Temp turns your cooling fan ON when the temperature reaches 4 degrees above set point, then turns it OFF at 3 degrees below set point.
The CT-EC features a combination plug and receptacle power cord design so you simply plug your fan into the thermostat's cord, set the dial and you're ready to grow.
Cruise Temp Cooling and Heating Thermostat is humidity resistant. Accuracy is +/- 2 degrees.
This control operates AC, exhaust fans, evaporative coolers, heaters or other temperature equipment by activating switches, motors, valves or pumps.

The combination plug/receptacle power cord receives power when the atmospheric temperature varies from your preset level. The sensor allows a 3° comfort zone between "on" and "off" functions. Simply plug the Temp H/C into a standard 120 volt outlet and plug your equipment into the combination outlet on the backside of the power plug. Set the dial to your setpoint and when that level is reached the control will either heat or cool depending on your mode and shut off, allowing longer life on your equiptment, while saving on your electricity bill.
Specifications:

  • 120 Volt.
  • NEMA 4X rated.
  • 40 - 110 degree range.
  • 15 amp maximum.
