Looking for an expert eye please

Well I did a full drain down, clean and refill with 2 clean fills between, each using less bleach (max about 20ml)
I noticed some black stuff in the water i pumped out of the res, ill keep an eye on that and during the next big clean, ill get the top tray off for a scrub.

On the last fill i had started trying oxygen tablets, and fish tank treatment to get rid of chlorine. about half of this weeks water has been sat for a week, in the dark, with an open top and the treatment fluid. I have noticed an improvement in about 6 hrs since changing the res.

Now using half nutes as it was mentioned before so the level is 1200ppm, I am using ph`d water atm for foliar spray, but will be switching to bottled, as i dont use much really. I have noticed some nute burn, and a couple of rust coloured spots on a few leaves too.

I also washed the top of the plant with ph`d water (spray and then run my fingers over the leaves), and the treated water was added via the pots to flush them through.

enough of the words, heres some pics, take a look at some of those hairs!!

Todays infants (2 wks) Speed Devil and S.A.D
Slight nute burn where i was testing the envelope. Im experimaneting with size hence 2 in a single pot, although in future, ill prolly match the strains

Todays embrios (seeds in today)(BB and Bubelicious), should be ready to go into the res in 2 wks

And my storage solution :D
IMAG0129_600x338.jpg

I have swapped out one of the 2600k 200W CFL`s for a 5600K 125W Cfl, to see if I can get the same results (and less seed stretching) while saving 75W for 18hrs a day. This next pic shows how i have a light gradient from veg into flower colours, the Right side also has the reptiglo tubes which are quite blue but not on all the time the main lights are

IMAG0127_600x338.jpg

I have also noticed some leaf curling so have increased the watering schedule (while being mindful of restricting flow for the newbies)
IMAG0119_600x338.jpg

As ive mentioned before, this is my first grow thats working so any pointers would be awesome

The rust spots seem to be getting a little worse. ive done a load of reading and im pretty confident its a calcium deficency, this is either because the ph was around 6.2 rather than the usual 5.8 (causing lockout). Alternatively the water treatment that ive been using is too efficent and stripping too many goodies as well as the cloramine, Im just about to set out about 50L or water so i can ph and bubble it over night and do a swap in the morning.

Any other suggerstions?

Wow, its quiet in here !!! ;)

For reference, the curling upwards was heat stress. I have moved the 200wcfl upwards and got a fan blowing through the foliage, all new growth since has been lush and green.

Roll on the end or sept!!
I think i might even have a speed devil a few weeks earlier than planned as its been known to be finished in 10-11 wks, rather than the 13 i had accounted for.

yeah the rust is usually coz of calcium, i got some on my first grow but got a load of garden liime now. Its all experience! good luck on the grow

I stopped using the awuarium water cleaner too now i think about it. since i stopped that, the rust spots have not spread further

Not sure if ive mentioned it before, but ive figured out why 2 of the plants are smaller, They both have one thing in common, rockwool started. I also have a big bang seed in each medium and the soil bred one is much bigger and healthier

Bit of an update from today.

Im a little concerned that i may have a hermie. its one of the big bang ones, in the rockwool. Might have to cull this one :(

My speed devil is one little hairy bitch!! must be european!
View attachment 2287965
I presume that each hairy bit will be a bud, is that right?

Heres the bubelicious thats auditioning for day of the triffids, I have pinched a couple of stems so that i dont have to have the light
IMAG0158_600x338.jpgIMAG0159_600x338.jpg

Anyone remember my tomatoes?
IMAG0160_600x338.jpg

Well they were taking up too much room so....
IMAG0161_254x450.jpgIMAG0162_254x450.jpgIMAG0163_254x450.jpgIMAG0164_254x450.jpg
These are just under 5 weeks from seed

Only one will be staying (for snacks when im up there, hopefully they will still make fruit under 18/6)
IMAG0165_600x338.jpg
this will not be in the Wilma, but will share the res. The black orchid pot sits inside the white/duct-taped tub and I will use a bulkhead fitting for a drain. This means i can have a remote location for the tomatoes that shares the pump etc. As you can see from the pot, im not too concerned about yield.

Depending on rootball size after the first plants come out, I may try some autoflowers in these orchid pots. As they are so open I imagine that the roots will do their own nft.

Heres the lighting gradient that I have set up. Im considering moving the left hand 125w blue cfl to the left and replacing the right hand 200w cfl with a 250/400w HID, thing is I dont want any more temperature if i can avoid it.
IMAG0166_600x338.jpg

Any thoughts anyone?

Hi again all,

Bit of an update and a couple of questions:

Firstly, how can I change my thread title?

Secondly, its about one of my girls, she is a Speed devil that was germinated on the 3rd of July and according to the info, should be done in approx 10-12 weeks.
Since the end of last month, she has been getting frostier and frostier. I took a look today and the frost, is triacs by the look of it. I cant see if they are clear of cloudy though, over the course of today, I have also noticed several hairs going orange.
IMAG0179_800x1419.jpgIMAG0180_800x1419.jpgIMAG0181_800x1419.jpgIMAG0183_800x1419.jpg
She will be my first harvested plant, so please excuse the apprehension
I plan on flushing her too so does this need to happen asap?
She was stressed somewhat when very young, as you can see, lost an early branch and I think I had the ph of my rockwool way off. alternatively she could just be 'special'
Bit gutted about the tiny yeild

As a comparison, here is another seed from the same pack, that is 2 weeks younger... and the same height ...
IMAG0184_800x1419.jpg

And her sisters planted at the same time, with her in the foreground:
IMAG0185_800x1419.jpg

And the overall view in there after the change about. I have also changed to HID, so the 600 that I was using is currently cooling, then im dropping to a 400W dual spectrum bulb and ballast:
IMAG0186_800x451.jpg

With the 600w set about 18-24" above the plants, I still get 800-1000 lumens at soil level, with a 200W CFL I wasnt getting much over 1000 lumens, tested less than 6" from the bulb and at soil level, barely registered.

Hey dude,

nice to see someone working with sweet seeds autoflowering strains! I've already grown the S.A.D you are growing right now and it was an awesome smoke, very relaxed and an amazingly full sweet taste. You should watch out for overfeeding with this one... Also make sure you have enough airflow on your room as the very dense buds of the S.A.D tend to mould when the RH is over 40-45 %. I can't give you more tips because I grew them out in organic soil and you in hydro..
Nevertheless I'll be following this one, seems interesting!

Peace!

Thanks for the input.
Dont suppose you have any experiance with the Speed devil? just looking for advise on her maturity.

did you do a post on your SAD? Thanks for the mould advise.

Im probably going to have a couple of potted plants too now as the HID puts so puch additional light in there, it would be a waste not to.

what should I look for PH wise in my run off, and what PH should the feed be?
TIA

hey dude for water just go to grocery store or whereever that has a water machine 25cents a gallon isnt bad other than that pretty good but u want ur starting ppms under 250 for hardwater specific nutrient formulas and that water is .....LOADING.. 24 my house water is 1000 so i definitely need to anyways if you ever plan on uping your hydro system to something heavy u will need to buy a reverse osmosis filter eastwesthydro.com has the best prices forpretty much anything
if u want a descent hydro nutrient experiment http://eastwesthydro.com/plant-nutrients/roots-organics/roots-organics-soul-synthetics-player-pack-715390 the big swell is epic on its own i got a free sample and its amazing also this doesnt hav any chelated salts I swear by their organics line for soil
and more ppms doesnt mean ur plants are necesarily gona be better u can get nutrient lock up and i think you may have overcomplicated ur system
I'm not really sure why you would want to do a hydro this early in your grow experience (they are difficult as hell)

feed ph is good between 5.5-6.5 for optimum im pretty sure

Hi there no RO or filtered water available round here, plus the reason im growing is for back issues LOL

I do plan on fitting some kind of filter to the mains supply in the future, that thats a while away. I had a brief spell of nute burn, then some heat burn, but the girls look solid at the moment im reading the the tds meter daily and if i want it to stay constant with the water drop at the moment, its close to 2000!! I would prefer to use ,uch less, but im still learning to read the plants
Im not sure how the system is over complicated. right now it is a Wilma 8 pot thats only got 5 pots in it. There is one additional remote pot for tomatoes to snack on and I made this remote so that I dont loose Growing room for the girls. I have an airstone in the res and a Maxijet 1000 feeling a selection of feeding heads while I find the least likley to clog up. for minimum maintenance.

I try to ph my water to around 5.2 then let it rise to 6.2, so far this seems to be working well

And I like a challenge, so why not have a blat with hydro :D

Figured while the HID was Off, Id snap some pics of the change now that im running better light. I havent increased the power (if anything, dropped it as I am no longer using the tubes).

Cant be bothered waffling so here come the pics :D :
The overall Room:
IMAG0190.jpg
Ive decided to pop a couple in soil so I can compare the taste
IMAG0191.jpg
Heres an overall view of the girls As you can see, there is plenty of branching, hopefully this shoudl mean good yeild as Im still over 1k lumens under the canopy (no idea what PAR though)
IMAG0195.jpgIMAG0200.jpg

Here is my stunted speed devil that went in on the 3rd on July, I want to flush and think it might be around the right time to pop her into a flushing tank with PH`d water only. Am I somewhere near doing this, or am I jumping the gun. According to the packet theres nearly a month to go. Somehow I cant see it.
IMAG0196.jpgIMAG0198.jpgIMAG0199.jpgtriacs.jpg
If shes ready early, then no problemo, itll stop me picking at nugs on the other girls, like I said, Im still learning how to read the girls, so input would be appriciated.

EDIT, The Tray is Cat grass, no reason I should have all the fun :D
