local dump is a great resource for me...I think the best advise is pay as you play...You going to start with one or a few clones, for the first 3 months you can get away with an 8 bulb t5 in the closet, see how that goes thahn invest...here is 12X20 room that cost less than $400 to build, bwith 5k total light... found lights in the dumpster! the veg room has a single 600w, 1/2 oz (my cost) total room set up under $100...

I've never understood why anyone would bother with a tent.
You will need at least three 1000w lights to cover the space you have or four 600. The bulbs for the 1000w are less money than a 600. The bulbs are good for 1 year of use. If you are in a place that gets real hot you will need a chiller for the water as plants sitting in warm water is asking for problems.
You wont help her compete with you? so you supply for the whole world? or just the small area you live in? Why are you even on this forum if your not willing to help out fellow growers? Or are you just someone that takes all the knowledge but never give back?
That would be fine IF i wanted to read a WHOLE tutorial but i wanted to know the answer to a simple question and yet your becoming a bitch about it.
First off, I really want to thank everyone for the pointers....even the stuff that can be "found in any canna FAQ on the internet". It's helped me. Everyone's advice on starting small sunk in. I think I'll go ahead and build my 6x12 room and just use a portion of it for now under one light. I think I'd like to try DWC.

SimonD....lol. Come on...Im really not going to be anywhere near your competition. I highly doubt I'm even in your state. If I was right next door you wouldn't have to worry about a strain on your market anyway. ;) I'm not looking for any top secret Simon family recipe....just clarity. That being said, know that I'm not tryin to be a smartass. I'm sure you have the skills to back up the cocky attitude.

I am still very willing to pay someone to make an amazon pick list for me. I just realized that some might not be willing due to security concerns, but I have a sure fire no doubt way of proving I'm not 5-0. Let me know if any of you old timers with DWC experience are interested. I just want to make sure I dont waste my $ on crap.
I'll provide as much help as I can, FREE of charge! I'm a newbie with some recent success. I can't send you a PM. Can you adjust your privacy settings so I can send you one?

You don't think I could get by with Amazon stuff? I get about $50/day on there and I thought itd be a great use of the credit.

Tell us how you earn $50 a day on Amazon?!?

You'll pay at least 20% more buying thru Amazon. If you don't mind that, then it's fine.

I personally have no expertise for DWC, so I’ll leave out the soil/pots. If you decide to go soil/soiless these items are quite a bit cheaper from the store anyhow, I can tell you what I would use. If you are planning to go with any more than 2 1000w lights then I would look into 220v wiring, and a controller. I can discuss those options with you as well. For up to 2 lights, separate timers on separate circuits will do. If you are going to go perpetual, I would invest in some T5, or 200 true watt CFL. Or just another MH setup. I can recommend some options in that area as well.

I would just start with the items you need for seed starting/clones, and build up as you go. Once you get clones/seedlings started under your first light that will buy you a few weeks.

Nutrients Ideal $27
shipping included GH flora, I use it, they work, and they are popular. In a 5000w grow, like $300-400 of General Hydro nutes last a full harvest, so definitely worth the money as I know they work. If I was trying to save money in this department, I would go General Hydro FloraNova 2 part, or Dry 2 part. I personally also use the GH brand supplements as well , but you can either skip them or use another brand. They are very overpriced in any big name brand.

MISC ITEMS:

Reverse Osmosis:
I use this model and it works great. I’ve priced out different brands and the cheaper alternatives are priced close and are probably lesser quality. I have only heard good things about this guy. If you do use RO water, be sure to get a calcium/magnesium supplement. I use GH Cal/Mg and love it, also lowers PH so I never need PH down anymore.
http://www.amazon.com/HydroLogic-Stealth-RO100-Reverse-Osmosis-System/dp/B002WDFAFS/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1327614783&sr=1-1

PH Tester:
Using water at the right PH makes a huge difference, especially if you are going with the DWC.
http://www.amazon.com/Milwaukee-Instruments-PH600AQ-Tester-Calibration/dp/B005H78ZI0/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1327614879&sr=1-1

PPM Tester:
I use RO water, so I barely use this, I just follow recommended dosages from the manufacturer for nutes. But I do own one as should you eventually. In DWC it is probably necessity. I use a cheap one like this, though quite rarely, but it works fine.
http://www.amazon.com/HM-Digital-TDS-EZ-Tester-Purity/dp/B002C0A7ZY/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1327615084&sr=1-1

Ducting:
Basic ducting. I started using insulated ducting from Home Depot similar price, but it isn’t that great to work with. Now I use hydrofarm brand lightproof silver duct. I use it in 8”, but you can use whatever depending on your needs. I would just match your equipment flange size to save on needing the reducers and connectors.
http://www.amazon.com/Active-Air-Non-Insulated-Duct-Feet/dp/B004K6BR1Q/ref=sr_1_5?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1327615239&sr=1-5

Pruning Snips:
These are my go to for pruning and trimming. Good quality, comfortable, and easy to work with. When I’m lazy I cut my clones with it too. If you want to splurge they also come in titanium.
http://www.amazon.com/Fiskars-9921-Softouch-Micro-Tip-Pruning/dp/B00004SD76/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1327615421&sr=1-1

Stand fan:
Gonna need room air circulation. I use 3 of this exact brand. They are cheap plastic materials, but work well for the money.
http://www.amazon.com/Lasko-16-Oscillating-Stand-Fan/dp/B000S2ONUS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1327615581&sr=8-1

Light hangers:
I use tie down straps as light hangers. For the money/ease of use/quality/durability I’ve not found anything cheaper. From Home Depot it costs me $5/light with 2 straps each, these are similar. Don’t want to skimp on these with so much money hanging from them, but I trust these. Don’t know this particular brand, but the reviews seem good.
http://www.amazon.com/Highland-92106-Cambuckle-Tie-Down/dp/B0002MAANI/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1327616453&sr=1-1

Clone Dome:
I have been cloning in aero as of late, but I used to use something like this, and will likely go back eventually.
http://www.amazon.com/Planters-Pride-RZG0809-Grower-Starter/dp/B001ACMLIG/ref=sr_1_9?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1327616693&sr=1-9

Carbon Filter:
For Odor control, Carbon filtering is my #1 choice. I have recently been using PhatFilter brand as I feel it is good value for the money, but this brand seems well reviewed.

to be continued if i get bored again :)

No, you're not looking for clarity. You've done nothing to educate yourself and you expect folks to take you by the hand, spoon-feed you, and show you how to run a commercial operation in three paragraphs or less. Ruts-a ruck. I've told you what to do: Run a few successful grows, understand the constraints and then ask some intelligent questions. Clearly, that's too much work when dreams of big money are on the horizon. Just so you understand, though I can't believe that I actually have to explain this, I wasn't talking about you competing with me directly (as if you could). Regardless of where you are, you'd be stepping on the toes of another brother who's actually done something to be where he is and dumping more shit bud on the market, and I refuse to help anyone do that. You included. Don't like it? Too bad.

I'm sure you have the skills to back up the cocky attitude.
There is such a thing as a search engine. Hell, you could just click on my sig, but that's obviously as much work as actually trying to learn something about cultivation. Oh, but wait, you're going to tell me that you are trying to learn by posting on this forum, right? :wall:

I've been trying to figure out how to PM since day 1. I assumed that my permission level blocked my access, am I wrong?

Kelsey20, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

  1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
  2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

I would like to get one of the pro's to give me a little advice before biting the bullet and spending a ton of money. I have done some reading, probably enough to understand terminology and general concepts but I have zero experience.

In my line of work, I receive alot of Amazon gift cards as compensation and if possible I'd like to buy the bulk of my stuff there. I would like you to spec out what to buy for an approximate 6x12x8 room. (One of the 12' walls has not been studded up yet so width is a variable at this point) The method of my grow is one of the things Im confused about, I'll need a hand in deciding whats best for me.

The building is insulated and cooled. On my to-do list is a partitioning wall with a door, some sort of coating on the walls, and any needed electrical upgrades. My hubbie's pretty good with his hands so it shouldn't be too tough.

Anyway, I'm willing to pay someone with a good rep a small fee thru Paypal for pointing me in the right direction. Thanks ahead of time! :peace:
I'll tell you everything you need to know for 1000.00 US. Lol!

@Roid

Thank you very much for your time.

I almost bit on a pair of those cooled ipower 600 watters last night. I flip flop from 2x600 and 1x1000 quite often. Is that brand any good? The price looks great.

Timer
The Ipowers come with timers...hangers too. Think they'd be sufficient?

Fan
This is what's in my cart right now. I assumed 8" would be good as far as future proofing goes.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002JQ4K1I/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A1TQQ4ZHI2444B

Reverse Osmosis
How important is this? We have great city water in my area, not hard or anything.

PH Tester
Got it

PPM Tester
Got it

Duct
I figure I'll pick that up from the lumber yard

Pruning snips
got some

Fans
I have a huge oscillating shop fan....weighs like 100 lbs

Clone Dome
Ill grab one of those from the gardening shop as needed

Carbon Filter
I saw a DIY tech on those somewhere. I'll probably either go that route or pick one up after I see how stinky it is. My building is kinda off by itself, Im hoping it wont be a big issue.
