long term seedling preservation...stop growth but not kill

Hey guys! This is my first post but an avid thread reader/student.
I have a two recently transplanted babies (about 4" above soil...sorry, camera's broken) and an additional 3rd seedling not yet transplanted (about 2" above soil in a solo cup). My problem is that my grow space has only enough room for TWO plants. Is there a way to preserve the third seedling, to stop growth (hibernate?) but not kill it, until my other babies are all grown up for a few months? I heard from a friend that refrigerating it would keep it alive and stop growth but didn't see anything on the interwebs confirming that. What about freezing? Any advice? I don't have any other friends that grow, so I can't give it away.

Thanks!
