from what i understand its trimming all lower growth so that your plants resembles a lollipop from profile. This inturn focuses growth and energy to the tops. I think thats the gist of it. Anyone wish to add please do.

Thats pretty much it. Most people cut the lower 1/3 but some people cut the bottom 1/2. Fan leaves, everything. Just want the stem for the bottom.

its a way of pruning the plant that promotes more growth and auxins towards the top of the plant. Instead of keeping every branch on there and having popcorn nuggets all near the bottom, you prune 20-50% or the lower growth and that in turn sends the nutrients and hormones to the remainder of the plant.

usually its done in veg up to about the first week of flower. suppose to provide more energy for the tops and not the lower popcorn buds. depends on the wattage light you have. higher wattage gives deeper penetration. so if you have like 6 foot tall plants that are lollypoped then only the top 3 feet has growth

would it be smart to put tar or tape or something on the stubs of removed growth? i am very interested in this procedure as well. it seems that you could grow a lot more plants in much less space....but I'm not convinced it's that effective....any1 else have experience or thoughts on lolipoppin'?

There's a few journals on people lollipoppinjg, and haveing single 100+g colas coming off a plant. It also allows for more air flow when indoors, and lots of plants in a small grow area.

i recovered some plants from outside in pots that i neglected badly due to location of them and time to get to them. they were about 3 feet tall and badly damaged from insects, slugs and lack of water. i had no other plants in my op at the time so i wouldnt be infecting other plants with these.
they were pretty much lollypoped already from the damage. i topped them for clones, vegged for a week, then flowered for 10 weeks. finished at about 5feet plus tall and about the top 2 and a half feet was nice full buds. i went vertical so i lowered a 400 watt hps with no reflector down into the the middle and surrounded the bulb with the plants.
