Lollipopping - Did I do it right ? Could this lead to my girls going hermaphrodite ?

Dear Forum,

This is my first post ever on this website so I'll try to be as informative as possible.

First of all, I'm a novice grower from The Netherlands and I'm now busy with my second grow.
I've got 5 girls under a 400Watt HPS in a little growroom.
3 Shiva Skunk and 2 Special Kush plants.

I put these girls in flowering 25th of April so we're close to week 3 now!

Now.. my question!

A couple of evenings ago I did a lot of research on Lollipopping and decided to give it a shot, I noticed that I had a lot of lower growth that wasn't receiving sufficient lighting and I noticed that these branches weren't going to develop into anything worth smoking.

I also read that if you take the lower portion away the plant will automatically put more energy/hormones/nutrients into the upper portion which would make for thicker and better colas on top.

Sooooo...

I went ahead and picked one of my girls out of the room and started cutting, I took all the stuff off that seemed useless or too small.
The thing is.. some of these branches that started WAAAAY below and grew all the way up to the canopy of the plant ( it was a branch that reached upwards for 30-40CM / 15.7 INCH ) so this gave me a lot to think about.. these particular branches were receiving light yet started all the way down at my plant..

After a while of thinking I decided to cut them away.. which now led to me being all unsure about my actions.
I have lollipopped all 5 of my girls..

So now my ACTUAL QUESTION ! :D
( forgive me for all the rambling.. I hate my ADHD )

1. Should I have kept these branches that extend upwards even though they start all the way down ?
2. Will too much trimming cause my plant to turn Hermaphrodite ?
3. When is Lollipopping benificial to my grow ?
4. Is Lollipopping a bushy relatively small plant smart to do ? ( half a meter high in week 2 of flowering )
5. Did I totally fuck up or am I still going to receive some decent marijuana in 6 weeks ?

Please soothe my chaotic mind, I have been thinking about this all day and the internet doesn't seem to give me a straight answer.

The pictures I have enclosed in this post are from the SMALLEST plant in my grow, I just happen to have taken pictures of this one.. I will post pictures of the full grow later today!

I hope you can help me out and I look forward to reading your replies!

Thanks in advance,

Nikoma

I have personally never done it,so can't speak on growth benefits first hand, but it is a definite answer that you have created air flow. The mixed reviews will come pouring in. There are many that just let the plant grow and others that tinker.Doesn't look bad to me and I would like to see the results come harvest.

looks good, i had branches that were level with my canopy but was coming from the bottom of my plant so im currently doing a side by side test one i have lollipoped like you have and the other i have just stripped the lower part of each branch instead of completely removing it, be interesting to see the results i get

Thanks for replying so quickly, Yeah indeed I created airflow! good observation.
Besides this is there any risk of turning my girl into a hermaphrodite because of the trimming ?
As in.. did I trim too much for the plant to go in complete shock and turn into a scrotum carrying female ?

Interesting, I would like to know what the differences are in the end! So let me know :D
And thanks for saying this looks good, makes me feel a lot less shitty.

PS. How do I create a "signature" below my posts and how do i get myself a profile picture ? :/ probably a retarded question but I can't seem to figure it out!

EDIT: I figured the profile pic / signature problem out... I'm just retarded as I stated previously.

The answer to that is how stressed are they?It is definitely true that overstress can cause Herms. That plant doesn't look very stressed but I don't know what it will look like in a couple of days.Just from what I can observe though, I think you are fine.Nice looking plant BTW.

Well they were all very very healthy when I started cutting, I will post a picture of my full grow later to give you a peek of my grow!
Thing is I got a little worried after reading so much "OMG MY SHIT TURNED HERMIE" posts that I just had to get that question answered somehow.

We'll indeed have to see in a couple of days to see if the plants are still fine!

And thanks for the compliment, I think you'll like my bigger plants a little more though!

if worried about making your plant hermi next time try doing it over a period of a few days or maybe a week, although plants that hermi are normally constantly stressed and not the 5 mins it took you to do that

I trim mine during veg a week before I put them in flower. I do it all in one shot. You should be okay trimming that early in flower. Your plant looks nice and healthy. Good Luck!

I trim pretty heavy and stake right before flower and they havnt givin me any problems as of yet. usually when I think of lollypoppin I imagine only the top part of the plant having most of the leaves and the rest of the stock looks like a lollypop stem. Happy growing

Its simple, just tie your limbs down whatever way they need to get optimum area and space, and trim whatever needs to be gone for best light the entire grow, real simple:shock:
