yea i got the solution brother.... just add some sand (playground sand) to the top of your soil. a little less than an inch and u will no longer have those nasty gnatts!

They're more of a nuisance than anything else...Like jjbt said, sand is your best solution

The fungus gnats are not what you should be worried about - its their babies that are the real pain. They eat new tender root chutes if given the opportunity.

If you do the sand trick you will have to seal off the holes at the bottom of the pot until you water or they will just come out of the bottom of the pot...

im working with a flower box if that changes anything. just out of curiosity what will the alcohol do? should i use a zinfandel or a sauvignon haha

I hear a little Barry White and some "mood" HPS lighting works well with that wine - you can have them gnats doing circus tricks for you in no time. ;)

Something which works really well is GNAT OFF or SPINOSAD.
These are 2 tried and tested ways that i have found to deal with these pesky gnats.

As said earlier the sand only works if you can block the bottom drainage holes in your pots.
