Most websites say that the terpene limonene is used for relaxation against anxiety and depression, but some websites say it is what gives you energy. I am starting to believe it is what causes my anxiety attacks that I get so often with most strains. I just tried Purple Kush today and it was completely relaxing and super euphoric. I also noticed on Leafly that it doesn’t have any Limoneme at all, although I know that it’s hard to know exactly what terpenes and their levels strains have because it depends on the grower and how it is grown. Could I be right though!?? Maybe I do need to stay away from limonene. Also there is a terpene in weed that is found in black pepper and if you ever have an anxiety attack with weed just chew 4 peppercorns and put them under your tongue and smell the jar. Your panic attack will disappear in seconds. Trust me it works! Neil Young told Howard Stern about it on his show one day.

This is interesting, I have been smoking for about 5 years and recently just had my first panic attack smoking dispensary weed that had limonene. Told myself I need to stick to my own stuff haha

I always get energy from strains with high levels of limonene. Sour Diesel, Lemon Haze, Lemon Jeffery, they all have uplifting effects for me.

I talked to a master grower from a famous company and he says it is not possible to have consistency with thc, terpene and CBD levels. He said it’s just the luck of the draw with every grow. I remember once I had tropical berry OG with very little limonene, and then the next batch they made had a very high level and ultimately I did get a pretty bad anxiety attack on that second batch. So what’s the deal? There really isn’t any type of consistency? There must be a little if people only go to certain strains for a reason or another. Right now I’m only working with Purple Kush because it seems to have no limonene at all and I can smoke tons of it without a problem. But then again that info was gathered from Leafly, Which someone said he’s not trustworthy.

Here are results from a purple kush test:

  • 1.66% Linalool
  • 1.25% Caryophyllene oxide
  • 1.53% Myrcene
  • < 0.01% beta-Pinene
  • < 0.01% Limonene
  • < 0.01% Terpinolene
  • 1.01% alpha-Pinene
  • 1.07% Humulene
  • 0.27% Caryophyllene
  • 6.79% TERPENE-TOTAL

  • As you can see....almost no limonene.

I have a hard time believing that test. 6.79% is really high terpene content for flower but if its legit, then bravo.

Anyway, you need to see the terpene test for the actual flower you are smoking to know whats inside. The internet cannot tell you what terps it has...there are all sorts of fake or renamed strains in circulation that make it all a confusing mess to the average consumer. Then you add the misinfo of leafly/seedfinder or your average street dealer and its hard to tell who is giving you the truth.

I'd say, if you liked the effect of the purple kush you got...you should try to obtain more of it from that same source. If you got it from a dispensary, they might have the actual terpene analysis available to view. Otherwise, you might see someone else has "purple kush" and it might be completely different experience for you.

Yes very true it has be that one particular one. My point was that even the same grower cannot duplicate the same numbers with the next batch so like you said we just have to try to check the tested levels for each strain each batch

The general terpene profile of a clone shouldn’t vary too much between batches especially indoor. Outdoor flower can be influenced by the terroir of the region it was grown and you might find some different terpene content but generally the terpene profile is unique to each strain and doesn’t change too drastically unless you are using flavor additives like the Terpz product solistek sells.

Potency and other quantitative tests can be influenced by moisture content of the flower(among other variables) so you could have different THC content on the same batch just by submitting samples with different moisture content.

6.79% sounds like bs, I’ve never seen anything test that high

Yeah, that test is from analytical 360 old website. The new website doesnt have any tests that high except for a 0.41% THC 14% CBD strain that tests 6.18% terpenes and even that sounds suspect. They also have a couple flower tests at 46.2% THC which is straight up BS.

That terpene you are referring to that is in black pepper is called beta - caryophyllene. It is the only terpene that binds to CB-2 receptors that is currently known.

Yo idk if this thread is still active- but I have dug for a bit to find this just to say I completely agree!! I have a theory on why because I too suffer from anxiety when smoking high limonene strains (AKA ‘sativas’)

(for context I am a budtender and I am still doing a lot of learning and research, but this is just my best guess based on my knowledge thus far).

My theory is that people who generally suffer more frequently with anxiety or have a predisposed mental illness surrounding the deficiently of Serotonin neurotransmitters- are WAY more sensitive to Limonene (at least in conjunction w cannabinoids bc ive never known someone who’s gotten anxious from a lemon). Now this almost seems obvious because a lot of different things can cause an anxious person to become overstimulated like that- but here’s why Limonene has that potential;

its because it causes a boost in serotonin release, causing that ‘uplifting, energizing, and focused’ mood change, that’s why people generally go to ‘Sativas’ for that associated effect. Normal people with the RIGHT amount of neurotransmitters will feel better and uplifted, even giggly- where those who have that deficiency- are a LOT more likely to become overstimulated and anxious w/ racing thoughts, paranoia, and restlessness.

So.. maybe it really all lies within the right ratios of terps to cannabinoids? I’ve found that some strains that don’t have much limonene (usually the 3rd or 4th most abundant opposed to 1st or 2nd unless caryophllene is right behind it from my enxperience) like Blue Dream, or any Sativa-Hybrid close to that, is just fine and I still find those energizing uplifting effects!

does anyone agree? Also, does anyone kinda get what I mean by the specific ratios of terps and cannabinoids?
