Or LED, I've found the ones that are supposed to be so great in flower aren't all that in flower but in veg they get the job done.

not to me it hasn't been. I'm minimizing lose and running a couple panels in veg, I got 3 other I've put up for sale, all blackstar 500.

I just read some post of a dude with a blackdog that runs at 700 watts or so, says he got a lb and a half but all I see is a picture of a 1/4 ounce or so.

I may combine LED with low wattage hid in the hot months then just go back to the big hid in cold months when cooling is simple.

Yea, I look forward to the day all of the new tech like led and plasma materialize. growing weed indoors has to be the least green thing i do.

the problem is you cannot reproduce sunlight, that said leds use low energy but each led only produces a very specific wave length, the plants require a fairly wide spectrum for maximum results, so the best bet is to use a combo of light types, ex 600 watt hid + 600 watt hps is gonna be an excellent grow, 600 watts gives the most light for your energy bill. t5s ive seen do great for veg but i havent seen anything impressive from a flo during flower, if you want to go real cheap go to craigslist and search "grow light" I was able to pick up a 400 watt hid for 50 bucks, a 120 cf/m blower with new filter and a 600 watt hps in a sun enclosed hood with digital ballast for 200 bucks, nuff said.

I've seen very respectable results from a t5 array. He's looking for a low power veg light.

That said, I agree. HID is the way to go if you can, but if your vegging under a 400 where are you going from there? My 600w MH box can keep my 4k flower room supplied no problem.
