Lights on the side

Hey guys i have a 400watt HPS running over my plants but feel some more light could be benificial. I have a 250watt MH that I was thinking of running next to it problem is there may not be enough room to fit the 2 lights overhead, I have plenty of space around the sides where I can hang the light but I am concernd that my plants are going to want to grow into a light at the side. My question is will the plants grow to the easiest light source (the side/MH) or the strongest (the top/HPS)? Any information would be great as I would Love to get more light into my room anyway I can.

Cheers kwaka

I would have to say that if the light is strong/close enough there should be no need for the lant to prefer the weaker light source near it when theres a stronger one above it anyway. I have a cfl on the side and it doesn't grow into it but the side that is towards it most of the time (i rotate it) is bushier.

wow thanks for the quick response. Well rotating the plants isnt really an option for me so may only put it the temporaraly to get some more growth early on. I just didnt want all my seedlings toppling over and growing sideways if I put another light in. Cheers

Heres a photo of mine ten days ago. She is flowering and developing buds, no curving or stretching to the left (light is there)
