I'm looking into setting up a very small flood and drain system and I don't understand when a ballast is needed or not and if so how to connect it etc.
I want to use 2 high output 2 ft. T5 bulbs.
I found the "Hydrofarm T5 High Performance 2 Foot System" on a number of sites..

one of them lists it as reflector, fixture and bulb.
so.. do I need a ballast then?

that one looks similar, and it looks like it would function on its own but I still don't know and also it doesn't say if it would fit with T5's.
can anyone answer my questions about these products or offer me a better 2 foot T5 lighting solution?
