lighting heat?

im on my first grow

ok im waiting for my 0.5m x 0.9m x 1.2m high grow tent to come into stock. it will be perfect size for the space i have for it. and i have set myself a limit of 250w of lighting as i said its my first grow and i think this will offer me the results im after without overdoing it, also i dont want some of the people i live with wondering whats going on with the power bill.

so im wondering about the heat output with a 250w mh/hps in the space of the grow tent above. and if i have to add ducting and a fan it will have to be pretty quiet (brands?, size?). and also if i did vent it would be vented into a closet about 2m x 2m x 3m, so not that big either, but door can be left open into a much larger room if necessary.

also what would be the time difference/quality if i decided to skimp n just buy the hps for my first grow and not the mh? plan on flowering at about 18in.

blz bud and white widow currently vegging under 2 48w 5000k cfls in the mean time(still only small).

If you need good temp control get the largest duct fan you can afford and get a fan controller to let it spin as slow as possible while still keeping a good temp. 500 cfm would be great!

i highly suggest getting a fan. check out mixvent fans from soler and palau. they are SUPER quiet and can move air. the td-100 or td-100x should be good in that space. iaqsource.com has the cheapest price i've seen.

ok guys thanks for the help. i had pretty much conceded that i would need a fan, + the carbon filter attached to it would save a few problems. just i was kinda hoping someone would tell me, no you dont need a fan at all, lol. well it would just be easier.

just remember guys i am in aus, so i need to buy locally, i went to puracase around $50 worth of, nutrients starter pack + odor control gel, it would of cost me around $300 for that devilered to aus, yes quite a surprise!

that is one of the best surpliers of "grow" gear ive found online in oz. so if anyone finds anything in the full lists of products to the left of that page i would be very appreciative to hear the news.

or could i use a smaller watt fan? that was also quiet, just ive limited myself to 250w lighting power using and then i'd be adding a 100w fan strait up.

why not try this... get a bathroom suction fan, i got one for $20 from bunnings and it moves so much air that my cupboard never overheats.
only downside is people can usually hear the fan apon entering the room if your trying to avoid house mates or guests finding out.
just like any fan i guess.

your not gonna make it flowering at 18 inches in a box that is barley over 3 foot with the lights and rest of what is needed in there to. dont forget some triple in size once we flower. and a foot and a half by about same for width is tight to. i just see alot of heat isses. and no room to add a hood or something to vent it also in that small erea. not saying you cant just forsee many issues is all.

You will need to vent it. And you will have a ton of trouble flowering 18in plants in a 47in tent(guess converting 1.2m)

ok thanks guys, well turns out i cant get the 1.2m high tent. i cant find one anywere as it also needs to be 0.5m on one side or it wont fit.

so that mean 1.6m it is. well that will give allow the plants a bit more hieght i guess. also i got hell worried when i realised the high issues and topped the WW that night. but guess what it has taken to the topping great and looks like i will be getteing 4 main colas from it. the blz still needs to catch up to it a bit and i wont be topping it.

so new plan is 0.9mx0.5mx1.6m tent, 250W hps/MH with reflecter and probably cool tube, some kinda inline fan to fit (think i'll pass up on the 100w model i was looking at eariler and just go 4 like a 40w model), ph pen, ec pen, canna line of nutes, and a carbon filter when ive got a bit more spacre cash.

i think ive finally got it all worked out. and the plants are very healthy in the meantine. might even take some pics of them.

Sticking a big light in a little tent, you really should get an air cooled hood or a cool tube.

yer mate thats the plan. so either a hood/reflector which the duct can be hooked strait up to, so heat is drawn directly from the lamp and not just the tent in general or a cool tube, i have to look again im pretty sure you can hook the duct strait up to the cool tube. in that case the cool tube will b the go.

arr to much mucking around and getting it wrong with my first grow. it was meant to be an aerogarden grow with a few extra cfls, but due to having to spend $180 on a voltage converter as i got the biggest aerogarden available which was from US and all 4 of the cheap voltage converters from ebay lasted about 2 mins max(yes i followed all instrauctions and it was within there wattage limit). i have decided to spend some of that money on other things, its turned into a hps grow with several extra $100 spent/to be spent.

buy the way im estatic im managed to top the plant n get the results i was suppost to, tho its only early days yet.

not sure of the laws where you are but in the states,anyone who lives in the house will get charged w/ growing so it is very uncool to grow if your roommates dont know about it.

as far as i know they cannot be charged. and ive been found out anyway. i told them it was just tomato plants, im 100% sure they new it was weed, but it was an "oh ok" so im pretty sure if their not aware/part of it they cannot be charged at all. i dont want to pass the blame on to anyone else. at least i know they wont dob me in, yet i cant get them in trouble at the same time.

also this is Oz not the stupid US were you can get suied for sexual harrasment for hitting someone on the tit with a tenis ball..

n if i do get caught out i'll bring out my back x-rays n tell em its for pain. i'm killing myself with ciggies and alcohol anyway, cant wait to harvest to lay off it a bit again.
