Lighting for seedling ?

So I know that I do not what to keep the seedling too far from the light but also not want to keep them too close to the light ... So how far is too far and how close is too close . Also I have read 18 hours of light is ok what about 24 hours of light it's been a few weeks with 24 hours light and seem to be going kinda slow however I am growing little bit under 70*f I know that it is kinda cold to be growing in but they are not dead and are on there second leaves and seem to be happy just slow going . But then again this is my first time ever growing and so I don't know what is slow and what is fast and it's really hard for me to keep it above 70*f when it's -12 outside and cost of fuel is crazy in the northeast .

General rule is if its too hot for the back of your hand then its too close. Your plant does not seem to be streching for light. The only thing I can really think of is the cold temps are stunting her. Maybe getting the lights closer and try and keep some heat in your grow area.

Fluorescents can actually touch the plant and be ok. You need 100 true watts of light for proper growth.

You have problem with your seedling, over 1 month of grow and it is so small, also the leaves are showing problems.

He corrected and said they were only 14 days old...not 43...in another post.

My T5 48 is about 4 inches from the top of my plants.

What should I do ?
Im a newb aswell. So I'd say upgrade lights haha. Ain't nobody got time for baby wally world lights. My opinion but I don't know anything just what I've read haha.

Im running into the same issue though im not quite sure how far to have my light. Im running a 1000w halide so I have it like 3 and a half feet from the lil sprouted guys does that sound about right? I have pictures of the sprouters. Are they looking ok coming out?

I would say it would have to be the heat. I get great seedling growth just using cheap cfl's, before going into veg under MH. What is the humidity? Have you thought about maybe a heat mat? Are you planning om running the lights you have through the plants entire life cycle?

Thread jacked! 3 ft seems fine if they are seedlings, dont wanna get it too close 1000w mh is A LOT of light for a seedling.

OP - 14 days is a lot better. I would be worried if that was 5 weeks, something wasnt adding up. Yes they look fine.
