So I've already spent the majority of my "budget" on building the grow box itself (2' X 2' X 4'), the majority going to the needed tools required to do the job. My intentions are only to grow 1/2 plants max. I've kind of run into a brick wall dealing with the lighting. Fan, odor, all that stuff I have figured out. While I understand most of the information on lighting, my issues are figuring out a cost effective way to go about growing.
I would of course like to grow during the veg phase with a metal halide light, but finding an affordable ballast is a nightmare. The bulbs are easily available at a store near me, but I can't for the life of me find an affordable ballast that warrants its price tag.
My question is, am I better off just starting out with CFLs and then switching to HPS during the flowering phase. Both those lighting options are affordable. Will I really regret not starting out with MH, cause the $100+ price tags I'm finding don't seem within my budget at the moment.
