I am not a DIY person and opted to go this route as the first words out of the electricians mouth was at least 300 in parts as the whole panel needed replacing. With this I just plug into dryer and dryer into that. When I leave this place or sell the unit if I upgrade to a flipbox, I just unplug.

The POWER THIEF
Many people use their dryer outlet for grow lights. Some go as far as to build adapters or even disconnect the lights and plug their dryer in every time they need to do laundry! Here's an easy solution:
Use your existing dryer outlet for your dryer AND up to 6Kw of Grow Lights
Simply plug into your dryer outlet, plug your dryer & lights into POWER THIEF, set the timer and, that's it!
Dryer will be available only when lights are off -will never overload circuit.
NO WIRING NEEDED * PLUG-N-PLAY
Great for Rental Properties -Just unplug the unit & take it with you!

Here is a problem with this unit. a dryer uses about 25 amps. most of the time the circuit for a dryer is 30-40 amps. That will leave you 5-15 amps for lights. thats 1-3 1000watt lights. I would use a MLC 4X instead.

Unit does not allow you to run dryer while lights are on. I'm sure someone could make one cheaper but for the convenience, portability and peace of mind.

Just that my breaker box is full, and with this I plug into the dryer outlet and the dryer into this and I can put all my lights on the existing 30amp breaker @ 240V and my dryer when lights are off. Right now if I fart it throws a breaker. So for $260 all my problems are solved, saving money on the 240 vs 120 and all my lights are on a FAT copper wire...maybe 6 gauge. The best part is I unplug it and take with me when I leave.

~my dryer outlet is 5 feet from my ballast.

You live right around the corner I can take a look at it and find you a better solution. 240v is NOT cheaper you are charged for your watts the voltage and amps dont mean anything.


How many and what watt lights are you running?
