Do some strains react adversely to hps light?

I started some Romulan beans to find a good mom. They seedlings did great under T5, but when they got bigger and i put them under hps they struggled. They grew well but looked limpy/droopy all the time.

So i got a decent mom and took some cuts. Those clone did great under the T5s just like the seedlings did. Now that i just put them under hps they doing the same thing. Its like this straint just doesnt like the hps light???

Is this a thing? Never had that happen before on any strain.

No and I've ran a few roms too..

Likely the hps is throwing more light and exacerbating problems such as watering or a def

Plants tend to morph the tilakhoid accordingly to the par/spectrum+environment in which they are thriving.
Same happens with the root system, it will acclimate accordingly to the substrate reology for an optimal uptake of oxygen, water and salts AND if this situation requires a lot of energy they will simplify the move throwing new shoots from the pericicle

nemonic rules like -i´m hitting the roottip with this new light- also helps in this case

Hmmmm...ive always noticed an effect changingmlight...just never this profound.

It seems going back and forth between the two isnt a good idea..

Yes absolutely. Some strains need to be acclimated to more light.

I've read somewhere [during my first winter with cob light] about the acclimation performance from cold to heat vs heat to cold environments and the winz was for c3 plants moved from a warm spot to a colder one. Also did a few readings around chilled rootsystems vs root growth pattern, water status, abcisic acid, heated pipes vs water viscosity, heat vs lipids & sap...:wink:

I would add some silica every other watering. I use (Armour Si). Since I have been using it, I seem to have stronger, healthier plants that need much less support Read up on it and see if it sounds like something you might want to try. It helps the plant with heat stress and other problems.

this HGK from DNA i am growing is the first strain i have run that has this issue but it doesn't like too much light. I had to pull the HPS light off her like 4-5" from where i generally run it. If the new top growth seems bleached or yellowed and the plant seems droopy then you probably need to back the light off, even if its not getting the plant too hot it may be damaging the plant with light alone.
HPS are A LOT more powerful than T5's.
