Light distance during flower

I'm a total newbie to this and I'm 3 weeks into flowering and want to know how close should my light be to the canopy of my plants. I kept it aprox 18" away during veg and dimmed to 400 watts but have cranked it upto 600w as soon as I switched to the flowering light 12/12. Would you guy's recommend bringing it closer for flowering now the plants are pretty mature ? I have it at 10" distance now and the leaves look fine but will it dry the buds being this close ? Ta in advance for any replies :-)

far enough to where you won't get light burn. That is depending on your growing conditions/temp all of that. So truthfully no one can tell you an exact number. You have to determine that.

If you can keep the back of your hand facing the light
without it becoming too hot for comfort
The distance is fine.

Plants like temps similar to people.

It's that simple, Old Boy.

i run a 600w hps for flowering room and 600w metal halide for veg room and i always keep my lights 20-24 inches away just a personal preference, currently 1 plant is outgrowing my flowering tent so its about 10 inches from the light.
