I believe that but people say as lomg as its cool to the touch and you could hold your hand under it comfortably that it shouldn't be a problem for your girls. but what do the images seem to be?

cause I placed my hand on top of the plant and the light wasn't burning me but also I had a heater blowing maybe a foot away from them directly on them.. I think that was more heat stress!

    I use 400s and a 1000w HID and 8" is close for a 400. 18" is plenty close for a 1000W. 24" when plants are smaller.

I got one of those laser heat guns recently on sale and use that now to make sure the leaves at the top aren't hotter than 85F and adjust my light up or down as needed. Also have a small fan blowing over the canopy to help keep heat from the tops while a 12" oscillating fan blows back and forth across the plants to keep the air mixed well in the room. Room temps are controlled at 75F.

Much more accurate than the hand under the light way to judge temps.

    :peace:

Looks like dehydrated plant tops to me from too high light levels and heat. Those lower burnt leaf tips look like from water. Do you spray your plants?
