thats not how i really write but just making a point.... i understand that some people go to the extreme with their gabber talk, but for the most part a few miss spelled words an abreviations here and there are quite easy to disipher. i am as well (as you can see) am a horrible speller myself. its a pet peave of mine when people correct my grammar or point out my spelling flaws.

GIGLE GIRL, you made a good point about respecting your readers and i agree to some extent... this is still a non formal site that are full of openminded diverse people. the art of lituriture is exactly that, a art. people have the right to express and represnt themselves how they want. some may call this style of writing ignorant stupid and others persieve it at fun and creative. some people may find traditional and formal writing to be stuffy and boring. i my self fall right in the middle and respect both sides. after all no one has the right to pass judgement on anyone else... just myop
I agree that on a casual forum the rules of grammar are, and should be, relaxed. But as you mention, this is a very diverse forum and folks whose native language isn't English would most likely find proper grammar much easier to comprehend. I know proper grammar makes writing easier to understand to a native English speaker. I completely agree that correcting grammar and spelling is boorish behavior and wouldn't condone or participate in it.

I will add my opinion about art, literature and writing. Most great artists are highly competent in their crafts. Jackson Pollack, who is most remembered as the painter who dribbled or dripped paint on the canvas was fully capable of painting in a realistic manner. He only begin truly expressing himself AFTER he learned the rules of painting.

And while there are some artists who never had to go through the painstaking task of learning how to do it "the right way" before branching off, (Van Gogh comes to mind) they are greatly outnumbered by the folks who weren't that fortunate.

So that stuffy and boring writing you find so off-putting makes the fun and creative writing possible. ya dig? There are very few worthwhile things that come easy.

It is akin to someone new to growing that says gardening is fun and creative (both true) so they have no need to learn about lighting, nutrients, phases of growth, etc.. They might get lucky but chances are they will fail miserably.

You may feel no one has the right to pass judgement on you but they do judge you just the same.

The only people I've seen pointing out grammatical errors in other posts were people who are negative about this thread.

And I don't think this thread has anything to do with showing off or belittling others.

I find it funny that when someone starts to talk about proper grammar and shizat they automatically use more commas than necessary.

i love how all these people are bashing this thread. they must not have read it. funny.
Nothing quite like adding a post to a thread with "this is stupid" or "who cares" or "give it up already". It obviously strikes a nerve.

Though the thread probably doesn't belong in the "General Marijuana Growing" section.

I do have a hard time understanding why someone would knowingly be apathetic about appearing less intelligent. But I have a hard time understanding a lot of things.

Some people like myself is on a mobile phone. Now if I shorten words you all can understand them but the spelling is incorrect. It's all about communication, and if we understand what people are saying whats the problem. Some peoples spelling maybe bad and they might not be to bright. Should that mean we should exclude them from society. Other people maybe dyslexic or have other learning difficulties or disabilities. If someones grammar isnt quite up to standard. It would only mean u might take a bit longer to read it to make sense of it. Other people may speak english as a 2nd language so their english may not be up to par. I say as long as i get to understand what someone's saying it don't bother me. I hope that this site supports all genres of people not just for their correct standard of grammar. Some people are more intelligent than others big deal. The main thing is that we can get to communicate with each other. Thats my view anyway think about it.

OK - here is one I screw up all the time and would appreciate some help using them correctly.

Does anyone know of any tricks, rhymes, word-replacement or anything else that would help me determine the difference and remember which word to use when?

Something along the lines of "i" before "e" except after "c", "e" before "i" as in neighbor and weigh kind of thing... only useful for "effect" and "affect".

Thanks!
