I've been into the less now for a few months I have a 90w UFO and a 65w Hans and I like what u seen but now I what to step it up. Which led lights can reach a half a pound to a pound? And how many plants in a 4x4 space or even smaller? Please share ur experiences that got u to reach these yields

Yeah done that already nothing is really clear pertaining to yields what was ur best yields with LEDs?

Most growers will need an estimate 300-800w of led to hit 1\2 to 1lb. In a 4x4 you'll want at least 600w to get respectable results. The number of plants will depend on container size and veg time. These are just general guidelines I follow. Others may recommend differently

Yeah. You'll yield better with a longer veg and bigger pots. What are you working with? More lights. In a 4x4 4 area 51's. Apache tech 600 is good for the space. Multiple Hans panels.

I was taught yield is a measure of experience and gene selection, you ain't gonna get much with a 90w ufo or any mid range LED, stick to convention and go the Mh/hps way

Right now I have a 2.5 x 2.5 tent with the Hans and 90w there 2 5gal girls in there now I'm looking to get two area51 but I want to see yields that are being produce I see everyone's theories on u need this am

Hps/mh, experience, gene selection and your setup is what yield you will pull

This is what I do
I will buy 2 packs of seed, grow them and keep a cutting from each plant, stress them and play with them and keep the best ones (good yeild and high)

Do another grow with the best plants, take cutting again at least 3 cutting from each plant and them pick the best plant out the lot based on yeild, high and one that can take a lot of stress
And that roots quick and easy


Now you have the best plant left out the 2 packs of seeds

I will take a lot of cutting off the plant, root them and veg them for a few weeks and try topping/removing selective leaves, lst ect
Find out what works best

On diffent plants, ( side by side test ) after this, you know how to train the plant and you have the best plant and you will yeild a lot 15oz's or more with a 600w hps light in a 4ft x 4ft room

But just buying seeds and growing them you would be lucky to get 10oz's

It take a long time and a lot of skill to get high yield

I agree with this. Though IMHO I'd say with just buying seeds and growing under a 600 I'd be more inclined to say along the range of 6-8 with decent results, 10 on the better side and ~4 if things don't go so well. LOL

As far as LED. Not sure always been a HID grower. But I'm really hoping this area 51 XGS 190 I got going can compare to small 400W HPS grow. Hoping for 6oz off a single 190W which sounds like high hopes, but who knows. Things are looking fairly inline to do so. Though if I only get 4oz I'd still be ok with that, better than most 250W HPS grows.

To give you some idea what to expect, the A51 should dissipate 165W @ 30% so that is about 50 PAR Watts. Then there are reflector and lens losses call it 15% so you get 42.5 PAR Watts in the canopy.

The 400 HPS with brand new bulbs dissipates 400W @ 34% so 136 PAR Watts minus 25% reflector losses so you get 102 PAR Watts in the canopy. So the 400 HPS gets more than twice as many photons into the canopy assuming a brand new bulb.

What if I told you ,that in fact it is the A 51 with its 42.5 PAR Watts,that
probably has about the same if not more photons (in absolute number of photons =umols ) ,
than the 400Watt HPS ?

Or if it is not The A 51 ,it can be another led light ...

Simple physics there ....

The longer the wavelengths ,the more photons for the same amount of given radiant power ...

HPS is mainly green and yellow wls ....

Leds are (usually ) heavy in red wls ...
....

1 watt red light contains almost double amount of photons than 1 watt of blue light ....


Guys, you 've to relax a tad ,with the efficiency numbers and records ..
Or the PAR watts or Horsepower or what else...
It doesn't work that way ...Not only that way ...A whole lotta more to be taken into consideration than just power/PAR watts /efficiency of the x led ....

No ...

Leds are way powerfull and versatile illumination regarding horticulture ..
HPS and MH are just ...more familiar ..To put it this way ...Auto-pilots ....
Leds are another story ....

300-400 Watts of them can beat the yields of any 600-1000 Watt HID light ...

But not on "Auto -pilot " .
It takes a lot more ...

Only for the brave ...

I am not trying to make our lighting endeavors more about efficiency than buds, I understand there is a point of diminishing returns (we dont want to run the LEDs too soft) but it it really is all about photons in the canopy, and PAR watts is a great starting point to have this discussion. It is very hard to make an argument that 42 PAR watts beats 102 PAR Watts.

Would this mean that the sg190 wont out perform a 400 watt?

From my math, I believe you would need at least 2 XGS-190 to do the job of a 400 HPS (assuming you replace your HPS bulbs often)

just out of curiosity what is the point if its running at almost the same power.... seems like the saving arent there to justify the cost

I hear that, HID is hard to beat. A pair of 190s will consume 380W and a 400 HPS will consume 440W so there is not much power savings there. The upside of the LED is higher quality buds and no need to replace the bulb every 6 months. I was using some 18 month old bare 600 HPS and only getting .3-.4 grams/W on my OGs.

EXACTLY, and that is why it is perfect to supplement your HID main light with LEDS so that your BUD takes advantage of the 640-665nm red spectrum from the LEDS.

Higher quality buds, isn't that everyones end game?
