Let's talk serious SCROG

I would imagine just about any contaminate on your hands while working with nutrient or res could be an issue.
The one i hear a lot about is soap or bleach in the res. There are seriously so many story's out there about not fully flushing hydro systems or mediums (hydroton, wool blocks) that it makes me think most people are just winging it when it comes to hydro.

We all know hydro's pros, faster vegging/flowering and better control of nutrient but this really makes it clear; you must use the right equipment and you get what you pay for.

A few years back i needed to pickup a PH meter, I didn't have the 60 bucks it usually costs for a decent one so i got a bargain basement meter. The meter read slowly and maybe i was impatient, but i figured "hey, its close to 5.8, I'm sure its fine" it was not fine... One nutrient locked plant later i was on my way to the local hydro store to get a decent reader.

The phrase "you get what you pay for" has served me very well over the years, from nutrient to equipment and even soil, there is a reason things that look the same but cost very different really are different! Company's pay for research and pass that on to you, so, if 2 grow tents look similar and one of them is double the price, the one that seems like a deal is probably a piece of junk.

Another rule related to that one is "go big or go home". Ok, ok, this does not apply to everything, a 1k light in a 3x3 area is a hassle to say the least, but i know a lot of growers that use multiple "in-line duct fans" they bought at home depot instead of getting a big ol' 500cfm can fan, in-line duct fans are great for semi-passive intakes and they are cheap (15-25 bucks) but the truth about them is that they are really only 70-100 cfm if that so, say you have 4 of them to get 400cfm of air movement plus all that extra ducting to hook them up, you are spending about the same as a standard can fan on ebay with the only plus side being that you didn't have to wait for it to show up in the mail.

Someone post some bud porn! I gtg to work and i expect some serious scrog pics when i get home! lolz!

Morning Professor! I will be starting my build this afternoon.
Man! I missed your post by 5 min!

Can't wait to see the setup I'm sure it will be excellent!

Quick update on the Violator Kush i have in Waterfarms. Checked the root system today and things were dipping into the rez so i went out this afternoon and picked up a new 2-outlet air pump and a couple air stones. The plan is to drop the air stones into the waterfarms and convert my top-drip feeding system into an aeroponic hybrid, I have seen great results from this method and hope to get a hearty root system out of it. At this point its been about 4 weeks and they are roughly the size of cabbage (same shape too), the first 2 weeks they were under a weaker light source and really didn't start to pop until i got them under the current CFL and LED system running about 200 watts.
I will post pics soon.

I got my parts today and I am kinda upset atm. Not only did it take 10 days to get here, they sent wrong parts and left out my 6" net bucket lid. I have used this same supplier for years, and the past 2 orders have been wrong, ugh. Time to shop local. Sorry to vent on your thread Professor.

No worries, that's always a bummer, I'm waiting on a delivery as well and hoping everything is in the box and in one peace.

I try to shop local as often as i can, nutes, net pots, air pumps etc. I don't mind paying a little more for the small stuff because its "tactile", I want to see what a 2in net pot looks like, helps me get ideas for my project and seeing whats available can give me options for the next project. I will say this, the big stuff? lights and fans etc, I go for deals over shopping local or needing to feel and touch it. My most recent purchase (and the one I'm waiting on) was a 600w digital ballast with air cooled hood, after a week or so of following prices on ebay and looking through Craig's list etc, I was able to get the setup for $216.00. My local hydro shop wanted close to $400 for an inferior setup with the same ballast, I get that they have a storefront and need to make money but dang! 184 dollars is a big difference and its hard to "support the local guys" when they wouldn't budge on the price even after i told them what i could get it for.

Now you got me ranting lolz!

Here's hoping you get your system up and running soon, can't wait to see it!

Hehe, It was a 6" net pot lid left out and they sent barbed T's instead of straight connectors. If I need them before they arrive I will run down to the local shop and spend 5 bucks, they got the big money items correct.
At least I got the ventilation and wall coverings I needed so I can get the room ready :)

yeah i just started shopping around at my local hydro store's.. way marked up but they threw a good point out there. If it burns up and its within the rage of warranty they will just give me one of the shelf instead of shipping it back. And waiting. I thought that was a good tactic... until i saw their prices lol

Good call.

In getting a deal online its a good point to bring up the turn around for repairs is long. Spending more money on local guys to make sure they're doors are open for emergencies when we need them is a good plan.

3-4 weeks in

One of my plants wasnt vegged long enough and as a result has an opening in the canopy right in the middle of that plant. A positive side effect of that is that the lower leaves there are still getting a lot of light and the stems in that area are getting real fat.

Lookin' nice, what strain are you running? can we get a pic from above, would love to see what kind of gap you are dealing with.

Ok so I just set up a clone in a DWC with a 400w hps. I would like to do a scrog. How do I do this? Im confused on how I can keep it in the screen and still change the water.

I am currently building a 400 watt dwc scrog. its gonna be about a 2'x3' screen. I will use DWC 2 buckets one plant. the second bucket solves the issue you brought up, it is used as a resivoir bucket, change nutes, test ph, ect. I started the build today, but only got some demolition and working on the walls. With the Professor's permission I will post the build pics from start to finish when i complete it in a day or two.

Hi all :) I am doing a 1-plant SCROG in a bid to fill my cab's screen, I originally planned to have 2 girls in my DWC tubs.. but seeds failing to pop made me wanna try this instead.

This is a Royal-Haze Fem, she is about a month n a half old and still very much in Veg :) I plan to fill the screen then slam her into Flower :) I have almost every nuit I need under the sun :) :) :) and also have a vast array of lamps at my desposal ie :-

2X 125W CFL,
2X 30W CFL,
1X 250W MH,
1X 250W HPS
1X 400W MH
1X 400W S.HPS,
1X 600W CMH
1X 600W HPS,
1X UV-B (10.0) tube... and..
1X Green Tube (for night lighting).

* I have a Kessil H150 Red LED on order
* I am running a "Full-Spectrum" grow :)

I have topped this girl over 25 times and have trimmed her under-caradge right back.. I am using a Liquid Light formula on her leaves etc.. as this speeds up Photosynthisis... the only things shes not getting at this point.. is Co2 but I am working on that with electric dampers etc :)

I thought I'd add my pics as I am pretty certain I am going to SCROG every-time from now on :) :) :)

Hope y'all like the pics and if you have any questions dont hesitate to ask :) - STELTHY :leaf:

That looks great Stealthy, especially that main stem, damn thats fat.
I would recommend switching your lighting when the screen is only 75-80% filled out. That way when the stretch, you still have some room to work with.

Thanks for the advice man! :) I am just waiting on my new 400W Digi-Lux Super HPS to come in the post and then she will be going into Flower asap :) .. A thick stem has to be a good thing :) :) ..Hopefully I should yield well - STELTHY :leaf:
