Actually my idea was to use these asymmetrical reflectors in a rectangular area with side lengths in the ratio 1.61:1. I was thinking of using three COBs , with the asymmetrical reflectors on the edge COBs, aiming to avoid excess light on the walls. For the record, this was going to be a http://reddit.com/r/spacebuckets type of setup. I've since decided to use two COBs only, so no need for the asymmetric reflectors..
That link isnt working for me...spacebuckets one

Yeah bro. It's not as cheap or easy as doing CFLs ..... but it is hella efficient and hella fun. For me it was very educational, too. I'm still planning to do a spacetote project(s) but the chamber will be used for mothers and/or clones.

On spacebuckets: they're especially awesome for plants in veg! Once you get to flower you gotta mess with carbon filtration, which can be done, but it is more ventilation work.

Check out spacebuckets.com if you're really interested! Lots of great ideas there.

So I want to run 6 vero 29s at 100 watts in a 4 by 4. Should I get reflectors or lens?
IMO you dont need either, but without walls is where I think they become necessary.
Lenses can keep cobs dry, but might raise Tj temp.
My cobs have been sprayed several times without issue.
I didnt get optics because I have a short tent and cant lose height needed using optics. I dont feel I am missing anything though although I haven used optics to compare

Yep- and I was not impressed. Lenses AIM light onto the canopy in a way that reflectors can't match.
Ttystikk is very set in his ways when it comes to lenses. he's got all kinds of them bitches on his bars. and man you probably like me wishing you'd known how much more convenient pin sinks were gonna be before you built your bars before pins were the new thang.

I built my water cooled bars for specific reasons and they performed to my expectations.

have you run angelina reflectors full cycle to compare ? i would like to see what i cob looks like 4 or 5 years down the road when it has been run above 50w and trapped in a lense its entire life vs a cob run the same way with no optics

Feel free to run that test. I am very happy wth the response I get from COB LED with lenses.

This is why i asked my last question lol.you speak in absolutes as if you been there ,done that.but in this case its speculation on your part not having run the angelines.i have run them, but not lenses so you wont see me say one is better than the other.but based on the sphere tests i did see i have removed them.i would bet the lenses test similarly ,where there is around 6 or 7% losses from a bare cob.

To be fair the DIY calculator assumes 10% losses from reflectors. That said I just run bare and let them stretch into the higher PPF area
