Legalize Mary Jane? Are you sure?

Hey everyone, first I am a VET smoker, but I am a newbie in every sense of the word when it comes to growing weed seeing I am tired of playing and dealing with BS people for my supply. So I am on a mission to be self sufficient which brings up my questions/concerns. I do NOT have all the facts regarding legalizing weed.

My thoughts are if it is legalized, then greedy government comes along and applies a growers tax or some kind of fuckin tax. This means I am forced to pay this tax which I am not paying now, on top of the money I am spending to grow. I would have to think the price on the street would drop like lead ballon, and this then affects a lot of people who rely on this to survive and I understand that too, and I keep an open mind seeing tobacco, alcohol, script drugs are sold to make a profit. I call those people who need to make money and have a business,,, in the "Entertainment Industry" just like BUDWIESER.
I guess there are a lot of pros and cons, and I hope I have not ruffled anyones feathers, I feel you should be able to do what you want to do in the privacy of your own home provided you are not hurting anyone.

The only good kind of legalization is medical, in my opinion. This makes it possible for qualified individuals to grow and earn money, without having to worry about any joe shmoe doing it and stealing business. 100% legalization would seriously piss off a lot of people.

Not to mention companies... If companies were openly allowed to grow cannabis, the value would drop, because availability would increase, and the quality of the product would probably also be low. Limited prohibition keeps the value high by preventing excessive availability, and keeping companies away from producing large crops of it.

Lots of pros and cons I am sure, my main concern is big government controlling it...

What is important is keeping the DEA out of medical states... from there it's easy enough to get it legalized medically statewide.

I have to agree brother, I would rather see our new congress lighten up A LOT on this rather than 100% legal. I am not BS anyone, I have been watched for gluacoma, I wear glassed and I have heard weed eases the pressure, dont have all the facts though. Anyway, I dont want it 100% legalized either. And the post above saying it wont get rid of dealers is a fact.

i know a lot of people who would become broke if cannabis was legal, so im against it

Same here... a small grower of a couple hundred quality plants will have a lot of trouble even competing with a large business with tens of thousands of crops... plus think about all of the crap chemicals companies would add to it...

You are paying a HUGE tax already - called the illegal product tax - extra money you pay for people to risk their freedom to get you marijuana. When ganja becomes legal, even if they applied a real tax, it would still be much, much cheaper than it is now. So if they put on a new tax? Just keep growing like you do now in private, the only difference maybe is that you could run down to the store and buy marijuana seeds in the strains you want to get started.

The folks who will be hurt are middlemen - dealers now - I think their jobs would vanish, but growers would still be needed to grow, less profit, but more stability being legal, etc.

There is no need to reinvent the wheel and guess what might happen though- just look to places like California where weed is already semi-legal - all this has happened already. Here is a great article for you:

Sure, but mostly on the illegal side though right? On the legal side they would be called pot brokers - there will still be a need for them, but they are much more high volume - the stores would be the new dealers.
