Should be able to view photos at this link: http://tinyurl.com/oyyjhbo
Thanks for the input rkymtnman!
This lighting is a temporary solution, I will be upgrading to more CFL's with higher wattage or a 600 watt HPS. Would like to do without the heat of an HPS though

you'll be surprised how much heat a bunch of cfl's put out. an air cooled reflector and inline fan should allow the 600 to run fairly cool.

your setup looks good other than the lighting. take good notes. keep your pH, humidity and temps good and you'll be well on your way.

You can go by watts per square foot but your plants dont feed on watts. Know your lumans. And how far it gets down into the canopy. Lol im running over 3500 lumans per sq ft. In each room. And yes my veg is three 430watt cfls and it does get pretty warm. Always have circulation in your room!

No wonder I stay on 420 mag forums. This site is garbage with no useful info.
Yea.. Hmmm.. I'm just saying.. posted this same post on 420 mag at the sametime and my thread on 420 mag has 710 views now... yea.. HMMM. Admin go ahead and delete this user account like you did my first one.. better yet delete this thread for I smash this website's reputation.
You also gave a bit more info including pics and stuff on 420 mag. You're a new member and you want everyone to jock your bullshit ass CFL grow with an actual "blue light" Really? you understand that type of blue light is in the range that our eyes see, not the spectrum that plants use, right?

no no no not in my house!

I haven't had much trouble on this board. But then I read existing threads instead of asking what people think about my setup. I'm protecting myself from criticism, probably. Cool setup, you need good lighting and you'll be rocking it.

First of all, as stated I'm a first time grower, with that being said the blue spectrum thing was something that had to be learned. (I no longer use it anyway)
Secondly, If members actually gave a shit on this website I would have been told that first thing instead of 420 mag members telling me first.
Lastly, It's not about people jocking my CFL grow (Which is going perfect, you've seen the pics on 420 Mag) It's about people actually giving two shits that a new member has joined this site and should welcome him/her with the highest regards. Not once has a "Well-known" member or any member at that from this site welcomed me. So suck it and troll elsewhere "Well-known" member.
You are right about us not being very welcoming to new members sometimes and for that let me apologize on behalf of RIU. You got all upset and started talking shit before anyone said anything to you. What kind of response were you expecting?

Things may have got off to a rocky start, but you can still turn things around. Try to upload some pics of your grow and be patient when it comes to members replying to your thread. The more interesting the thread/post the more reply's you'll get.

I'm glad you got rid of that blue CFL and welcome to RIU

Sweet deal bro. Yea i dont know about per plant i got. The way i figured it was by total room size. So for me i have a 6x8 room for both veg and flower.

Veg im running the cfls. Not utilizing the whole space, i have walking room. So lets call the grow area were the light focuses a 4x6 area. About 24 sq ft. 6500K PER BULB, 8 bulbs per, and i have three of them. 156000k devided by 24sq ft. 6500k per sg ft.

But going back to the original convo i do agree spectrum or whatever is diff. Cfl are great for veg but i know from experience and why i use two 600's in my flower room that the hps is capable in producing thick concrete bud.

I believe it is harder to achieve with cfls alone. I think its the spectrum of light. That being said ive done total cfl grows, the product was good....just not great.

I hear great things about leds. Coming a long way. I herd something about them actualy being able to change sprectrum for what the plants need at that particular time. Pretty cool!

It's 'lumens' and lumens don't measure plant active radiation, aka PAR. PAR is what the plants actually see and respond to. This is why HPS lighting is so inefficient; lots of light, but it's almost all in spectra the plants can't use!

Was gonna say this set up sounds almost like my indoor! However, once I saw the CFL's it made me sad in pants :(
Lol, im jk, anways, you def need more light man. Thats maybe like 400-500 lumens total? And you have a room of 5x3, which leaves you with 15 Sq. FT. You want AT THE LEAST 3000-4000 Lumens per sq. ft...... Your plants will barley grow, and maybe even hermy due to not having enough light that it will require to produce through photosynthesis. I would recommend replacing those CFL's with an HID, or at the least get a couple of these These or This.

Good luck!
