LED strips in 2024, Help needed selecting best parts for first DIY

For Meanwell, I'd suggest something like an HLG-600H-54AB. That one is 600 watts, 54 volts.
CORRECTION:
That should be 48 volts, not 54!

Since my HLG driver is only 42v, I connected a 12v xbox power supply in series for sufficient voltage. 8-)

It all works normally, but brings the efficiency down to 85%.

I think if you drive them hard, like 1.4A they may go just over 48, an XLG-H or HLG-48A are good alternatives for higher amps. Or of course the Xbox lol ;)

Never realized that you can series those power supply, can you do that with standard hlgs aswell? Ive done several drivers in parallel though which seems to work with HLGs but not XLGs.

Youve got a few boards running right? Have you got a grow and show thread?

4 strips in a 50 x 90 (20" x 36"), and my second run of 3 Bears OG. It's really packed with 2 plants in that little space and I was surprised to get around 14 oz. This is the only thing I've posted about it. Once again, I'm getting the yellowing on 1 plant.

I never tried two HLGs in series, but my guess is it would be ok. Note that the following refer to power supplies, not LED drivers specifically.

I've run em in series works fine but when you put your pots together you gotta change from 100k ohm to 50k or your dimming will only work on half the knob it'll still work but you'll only be able to use half the knob so it'll be sensitive and it just sucks , the lrs work good in series or parallel also. I wonder if mixing different series would work, like as long as you don't exceed the current rating it shouldn't shut off, here's what helps me

Ive been looking for profile but i cant find anything thats 50mm :/

Have you tried in construcion places? Standard u profile works fine. Id rec against alu square tube, you cant clean inscide and hard/impossible with screws and nuts.
i have requested a couple of quotes for same stuff you have but im holding my breath will probably be £15 per Mtr . Way too expensive, so will likely go with a cheap U bar , square will be ok as i will be using Self tapping screws anyway. Not sure why i would need to clean the inside of the square.

If you ever get powdered mildew or anything spore borne... Too many times ive saw led growers in the old days with the sinks boxed up getting PM somewhere inside the light. My advice is to keep any surface in your growroom cleanable.
Id rec try searching for the right t-slot in Alibaba, theres low quantity dealers that charge a few dollars per kilo of sink.

Good advice, I will only use as last resort.
I wonder if 3mm flat aluminium will do enough to heat sink these bad boys?
Or perhaps angle/T section without the fancy speed fittings.

One thing I don't quite understand is what wattage they are. How would you go about running them at 70w as opposed to 50w

Dont understand the question really, running them at 50/70w? Just feed more or less current. They are 48V and have max current 1.4A. theres some dets on the heatsinks in one of the threads. Remember if theres some type of frame it will also sink somewhat.

I've always used aluminum the same size as the strips, they barely get warm, idk maybe you guys drive your strips a lot harder? I use quantum boards with no sinks at all, 75 watts each and they're just warm to the touch..

Alu sheet may be the option. The fancy stuff you have is going to cost me £24 per M which is just too much imo. U channel seems to be allot too with that 60mm surface. Stupidly I found 20X60 for £15 per M . I will have a good look on Alibaba. Failing that itl be L bracket which looks shit but 1/3 the price

With the alibubbers; you really need to contact and confirm cause many times the sticker price may be all over the place, same thing with moq. If you find a good source, with decent shipping pls drop me a line per DM, same thing for complete light, always interesting to see how another build with same components go.

No problem. 50-60mm Wide and under 20mm T track seems to be really hard to find generally. If I don't succeed it will be square profile with self tapping screws and I will worry about cleaning it later. Even that T section is going to be a pain as some of it is hollow anyway .
Nothing a little isopropyl spray won't fix

Will have a look, thx for the driver info, new to me :) 14 oz, around 380g is very good for that space.

Yea T slot. I think I found a nice cheapish version from Germany. Alibaba is being a nightmare. I sent drawings ( lifted from another site for dimensions and they say they need more detail)


€12 per M best I found so far
