Led or Hps

I would go with the HPS, simply because LEDs are pricy and the technology is relatively new - I would wait for a price drop and efficiency increase before considering them, but don't take my word for it I am sure there are plenty of folks using LED's with great results. From the HID department, if you could get your hands on a CMH then even better (wider spectrum). I am currently using a HPS with supplemental CFLs and am quite satisfied.

As for the reflective material, even flat white paint will do the job. In my opinion a proper light placement and a good light distribution over the canopy is more important than the actual reflectiveness of the walls.

Good luck on your grow!

If you have the money i would go led.. but Im a led grower(and i also customize my panels) there are pro's and con's for each.. chances are you will end up with more weight by hid but you will have significantly more crystals and aroma from led my plants are sugar coated by day 1 of week 4. Thats just my opinion tho, what ever you choose just grow them biatches into goddesses and smoke 1 for me! cheers!

I'm all LED, I used to use HPS. If you want to see some 3w chipset leds pull 2 oz plus off an auto check my journal (in signature). I used to use 2x400w hps and am supremely happy with the switch.

If you're going for stealth and you're area is small LED is for you. You'll run into heat stress issues with HPS unless you have excellent ventilation.

How big is your grow box going to be?
I'd recommend a Pro-Grow LED light from Hydroponics Hut or a Diamond Series LED from Advanced LED.
You can pick up good lights for $300 from either manufacturer, and stay away from the HTG LED's you were looking at, they're trouble.
A good LED light will eliminate any heat stress from your grow, making it worth its weight in gold (IMHO).

I had a very good led light that I paid top dollar for diamond series led and just switched to 400watt hps. Now my led sits in the box. Save your money and go with hps, but if you need alot of stealth then led would prolly be a better choice

I wish I had the money to go with a good led, but I was looking at diy like hoss does. My veg light alone was going to be $200 though.

I would pick that LED over the HPS in this case, if those are the only 2 choices. That LED is about 140 watts at the plug.

If you could scrape up a little more than $265, there are some decent LEDs out there. But if I had a choice between say a 250 watt HPS, or a crappy 300 watt LED, I'd take the HPS.

In the case of the 2 lights you listed, I think the LED is the better choice when you don't take price into factor.

I used to own that exact light. It's ok for what it is. In terms of size and scope you're gonna be maxed out with one photoperiod plant or two autos. If you're going for more than that look at other options.

its hot, you'll def need a vent in your small area. I know a lot of people love to shit on leds but if you're going to spend 70 bucks on a 150 hps you might as well check out the PG90 from hydroponics hut. its like 160 bucks but you won't need venting and it will give you the same if not more growing capabilities than the 150 (that and it runs at 85w instead of 165w. It's got 14 bands and uses 1w cree high output diodes which are very efficient. That and given the 60 degree viewing angle on their diodes (on that model) it will have sufficient penetration.

Look at three years of growing, you're going to have to replace that HPS bulb at least 4 times probably more at about 20 bucks a pop, that with ventilation costs and higher electricity consumption makes the leds a better option, especially for a grow cab. The PG90 has a 3 year warranty on it and will probably last longer than that.

I sold my 150 on ebay a while back.
