It's hard to get this kind of discussion going here without it devolving into a really nasty food fight.
Not as hard as it is for someone to post pics of fat buds they grew using only LED lights. Not saying it isn't possible, just something that most people can't seem to deliver on. For the record, I don't have a horse in this race. I actually can't wait for the day when LED's are perfected, and more importantly, made more affordable.

Most of the "exitement" comes from the theory of LED growlights. They look real good on paper (and advertisements!). And the truth is - they should work a lot better then they do. But the sad truth is - they don't. At least for flowering Cannabis and other "High Energy" plants.

I used to be an LED "Flag waver". But these days I have demoted myself to an LED "Spectator". I couldn't get the kind of results that the ads promised - but I still keep my eyes open.

If and when LED's emerge victorious is apt to remain a controversial issue for some time! Some progress has been made in the last year, or so - but there is still a long way to go in many peoples' eye!

not worth it at the moment stick with tried and tested lights untill there is evidence such as video on youtube i have looked everywhere and not seen 1 LED grow i have not laughed at. if LED grow lights are so good like manufacturers clame they would show it on youtube and not some bull shit sales banter about PAR rating is 100% bla bla bla... it looks good on paper but looks shit on plants.

where is the evidence to back up these clames? there is none thats why.

they get extremely hot so you would have to hook up the whole lense asembly with the wiring harness to keep the heat away from the nugz

156W of CFL Veg. 330W of LED from the TI SmartLamp for Flower; it goes head-to-head with 600W HPSs. I'm trying to get my SO to let me use a buddy's new one for a parallel grow. No fair comparing my 600W equivalent light to a twin 1KW grow... I draw about 575 to 720W all day long depending on the fan cycles.

The veg tent draws about 200W.

I don't know, for my second-ever harvest, I'm feeling pretty good about myself.

.

What's up with the inevitable headlight highjack? But... haven't you heard? They're starting to use HIDs for headlights in the highend cars. And the higher-end cars are getting LED treatment.

how old is that plant? how long as it been inflower? you are using 300w of LED to flower and it going head to head with a 600w HPS

I'm a fan of using LEDs, but I'm gonna wait for the technology to get a little bit better and the price to come down.

In the next couple of weeks I'll be doing a full LED grow from start of cloning to finish. I'll be using only Blackstar 240 watt Veg model for the vegging of course but the actual draw is only 135 watts according to my meter. for flower ,my 2 x 500watt 2011 flowering models arrived today. The plant I am going to be using is my Great White Shark from Greenhouse seed Co. So maybe one week to take root and another 4 for veg then a total of maybe 56 days of flower. The 500 watters actual power draw is only 300 watts each light so 600 watts of led for flower in a 4 x 5 space. Any suggestions on what to call the thread peeps ? P.s. All I have ever used in the Past is HID !

your probably seeing zennon lights not leds, their real annoying and shine right in your eyes.
Their commonly seen in stadium lighting in the USA, much like our blended mercury/mh/sodium blue lights.

hhalogens are the norm though. if you get some cheep security light glass and put them on above it, the shear lumins available from an incandesant that's got thermal protection like some leds, can go right up and touch the plant if 2 sheets with a gap are used.
I believe theres some new MH car light bulbs to come on the market soon, with this new ceramic tech theyre developing.
