LED Lights??? Any opinions? I am thinking of starting an experiment

I am thinking of starting a new grow room in one of my extra bathrooms. (It's a wasted tub as far as I am concerned). I was checking out some of the new red/blue LED systems to experiment with. Between the greatly reduced power consumption and virtually no heat, I am looking for either the downside of using them, or are they just a gimmick that is really useless? Anyone?

slow down!! I only grow with leds and mine are great. I am in my 4th grow and 3rd led only grow. My seedlings were stretchy but after that the plants went wild! I tried three different styles of led and found my favorites. I personally use a 250 watt equivelent....(45 watts led) for my seedlings. Then I put them under the GrowUfo(90 watts....400 watt equiv.) for the first few weeks of veg. I saved and bought a huge panel(dont ask) and put all my plants under that for the duration. My yield was slightly smaller than my hps grow....but the potency was off the hook. Im going to add cfl for my next grow to see if theres any difference. Ive heard good things about adding the cfl's. I would grow hps but i cant risk burning my old ladys place down. I grew some great kush...and god bud on my last grow and im happy. Hope this helps. igwleds

the light had nothing to do with the potency at all. and if you got less than an hps and they cost 10 times more. it dont make sense to buy them. point proven.

I think it depends completely on the types of LEDs and the setup you are considering. For one, HPS has heat & power consumption issues that you simply don't run in to with any LEDs, even high-power 1-5W LEDs. I'm on my first grow with a combo of CFLs and LEDs (mixed high-power 1Ws and standard 5mm & 10mm red/blue LEDs) and the results are good so far.

I do agree that the growing industry seems to charge an insane markup over the cost of parts for LED lamps so that's why I built mine myself, but it's not for everyone and you also need to take the size of the space in to account.

my 430 hps only costs 30 bucks a month to run. led`s are to much money for what you get out of it.
add it up, led set up cost electric bill equiptment, nutes, so ,so .
then compare it to hps. no comparison. cost per ounce

Well, to be honest, I have completely changed my plans, because of my wonderful, loving wife, who has decided that I can use the LED/CFL area as my clone area, and I am building a dual 600 W HPS (But I am thinking of bumping up to 1000 watters instead) flowering room. I am attaching the plans for the new room. I have changed the 150 CFM fans to 250 CFM, in order to overpressure the room. What can I say, my wife rocks!:eyesmoke:

i was lucky enough to have no budget. I also looked around. I wasnt impressed and kept looking. After talking with tons of people i found the two companies i wanted to try. I bought and unfortunately......for those who dont believe....i love mine. I will never say which brand because i dont want any troubles and really dont want anyone to think im selling them. peace....time to burn!!!!! :)

Dude, you can't just do that shit. If it works, we want to know. I am setting up a clone/mother room. I'd like to use CFL/LED.

i think it depends on the led u are using.... i have never used leds but people who know much much more than me say " leds are the future but arent there yet" i came across this add in high times called procyondepot.com and the procyon 100 is advertised in another page from indooragriculture.com as 70 % higher output than ufo led and says cost 5 dollars a month to run, but 595 dollars is alot i wont buy one until i see someone do a grow with one and get proven results hopefully by then price comes down some good luck

yay the correct answer.
not woth it ...........YET.
let the others spend the money and complain to the companies so they improve it first then mabee it may be worth the huge cost to purchase, and get more than a half ounce per plant
