LED heat VS HPS heat?

I was wondering who has used hps and led and know what the differences are with heat management. What have your experiences been?

I had 2 90w UFOs that I could hold at any time. I sold them for a 250w switchable that cannot be touched and brings the heat in my tent to very high levels. I have to keep it open when the lights are on.

My impressions are that the heat produced is about the same per Watt of power, but that HID put more heat out the front, where LED heat can mostly be dissipated out the top of the light. This means you can get closer to the plants.

I think that the main reason for this is that less Infra-red light is generally output in LED systems than with HID. The IR part of the spectrum is weak, or missing from most LED light systems.

When I am adjusting LED's, I can hold them by the actual lamp in my palm while they are still turned on... I don't think you can do that with any wattage HPS bulb

No, and some might even burst when touched so...yeah. But its not really fair to compare the heat from a 90w (if actual draw) LED to a 250w HPS as Claude did.

I think the idea is that you can use less watts for LED to get similar results with a higher watt HPS because some of the LEDs give off more usable light for the plant. Less watts = less heat, no matter what the source.

So do you guys think 250 watts of led would produce the same amount of heat as a 250hps. If you had everything dialed in heat-wise for 250 led could you replace it with a 250 watt hps and not have to change the way the tent is cooled?

Absolutely, if you have a quality source of leds.

I am sorry but I highly disagree
No need to apologize. You have your opinion and I have mine. I know what my leds produce and what my hps grows used to produce before I made the switch, and I have no regrets. I stand by my statement. Why do you disagree?

Hps will have more heat then leds in general. I run 600 watt hps units 1 in a 4x4 tent and 3 in 4x8 tnets. I have no heat issues and I do not use cool tubes or inline ducting hoods. I use 2 clip fans inside to move aire then I have inlet and outlet fans to exchange the air with co2.My in draw fan runs 24 hours and the exhaust fan is set to run 30 minute on before a fresh co2 injection.
