Hey everyone, just looking for input. I was looking at the medic grow smart 8, but they are currently out of stock. So the mars hydro fc e8000 caught my eye. Anybody with experience with either light? Which would you choose?

I used a Medic Grow Fold-8 in a 4x4 for my last grow-just harvested, grow journal is on this site. Once I'm done drying, I'll sterilize the tent and install a Marc Hydro FC-6500 in it for my next journal. I'd go with that light over the FCE 8000 in a 4x4, but it would be awesome in a 5x5. You're going to love the bar lights.

Mars FCE 8000 is 800w and 1500umol

HLG 650R is 630w, and 1781umol

FCE 8000 is grossly overrated for the watts

The HLG Diablo Scorpion in 650w and 2130umol 3.2 efficiency rating

While the HLG are more expensive. Its no contest about which ones are the most efficient per watt.

I dont see how both are rated for the same efficiency of 2.84 when the HLG 650R is putting out 281 more umol, and 170w less.:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Am I dense, and missing something?? Its possible:D:D:D:D:D:D

Mars FC and FCE 800 are 1840 umol in real life testing, but by their testing they're 2130 and 2160 umol.
They both provide better coverage than HLG 650R or Scorpio in 5x5 and 4x4 tent.
Yup, ive also seen Mars test out about 10% under spec. Maybe theyre quoting board efficiency but definitely a bit dodgy.

Is that common with all led makers? Maybe they are in competition with each other and %10 extra puts them at the top. I was happy with my Mars but have no way to check.

It's a typo on their page. Later down the page they show this.

I dislike how many of them do this. If you work it out on their numbers it's actually 2.6umol/j

2080/800= 2.6

I think its fairly common by the low range light makers to simply quote efficiency based not on tests but calculated board efficiency based on the datasheet. A bit shitty cause usually even so they play fast and lose, quoting nominal power efficiency for the juiciest spectrum (usually 5000k has the most photons per watt) when they are actually using a different spectrum and higher power per diode.

I am trying multiple lights and concentrate on each 2 ft square of my 4x4 tent i like i can very the height and light dimming in each square
