The BML/FluencBioengeniering SpyderX & there new Vypers look like they might be an industry leader this year. Finally there pricing is more reasonable as well. Up to 2.0-2.2umol/j. With 12-30% higher Par. Sweet!

AquariusPanta, what happened to your V+C series? I'm following a thread on Grasscity with x2 of your lights vs. x2, 600 HPS. It's equal wattage with pretty even supplemental lighting on each side. You're probobly aware though. Real interested in the final product results & weight. I started checking out your lights when the Optics came out.
The lights you guys pointed out are nice but I am looking for lights between 450-700watts. I know multiple smaller units are better for light distribution, that's why I'd consider 450's. Can't have a cluster-fuck of lights to deal with. My next room going up in Jan. is 12'x14'. That's 10'x12' being utilized as solid canopy. My current room is 11'x9' canopy with 12 plants as that's my limit here on 1 patients card. I need to maximize my yeild so I can't take shorts on my lighting. Wish I had time to learn how to build cuz I'm a builder by trade and could kill it cosmetically, quality.
The white lights available now seem to be great for horticulture though I'd like to see them supplemented to peak between 600-680 mm until one is manufactured. Sure it won't be long. Just the 6 months or less I've been studying LEDs, many changes have been made in the industry. The prices are still redic though IMO.
I'm aware people here build DIY lights & have technical knowledge, so I was hoping to learn more as to what current companies might be worth checking out? I need them to be around to honor their warranty to as many seem to go out of buss. In a year.

Heliospectra coming out with a led light bar(IP 66) which can be water cooled and/or air cooled?originally it was mentioned so in an email

http://store.heliospectra.com/collections/bestselling/products/heliospectra-lightbar-v101g-l?utm_source=tabbed-product-display&utm_content=Heliospectra Lightbar &utm_campaign=all

birdie says that they are dropping philips for $osram$ chips in future models.............no surprise as they have the lowest led attenuation @ 10,000hrs in the industry
Im trying to find the best side-light solution & am looking for a good light rail. Liquid cooled it says.

Merry Christams! The first one says Cree, Osram, Ect. As options with high readings. When I first started studying Led & COB lights, this is what I almost went for. I wanted to put it up against a similiar light from a reputable company that is verified to use top-bin said chips. Just because I was having a hard time desifering between the two. So, before wasting my money on both, I started reading these threads from knowledgable peepz like you guys here. That's when I found out some of these companies use fake or low bin chips. I'm still tempted to do a comparison though. Has anyone seen these? They've been out for awhile.

Hello Hybrid,

I actually bought one of these (Panda from China) to do a head-to-head comparison. My belief is they are Epiled's. They are "ok", but are outright lyin' on their wattage (which I have found to be typical for the Chinese vendors, not all but 90%).. I asked the guy repeatedly "how many watts are actually being drawn from the wall, not how many are maximum bgecause we never run them at 100%). For two months he lied but very consistently...but the Kill-a-watt never lies... I think they are 100w cobs and they are only running them at 40 watts each. Some of the product pages there purport (6) 150w cobs for a 900 watt fixture. LOL, that's what this one was supposed to be... I would bet they are all identical, and all run like this at 240 watts. Its too bad the fixture is alright but 240 watts for a supposed 600 watt (actual draw) is bunk. I built a 4 cob vero29 fixture with meanwell and its definitely betta. I'll attach some closeups.

Bml is great and all and I am in no way knocking them or their products, but....

and also not to toot my own horn...but I was just calculating this out and it surprised me.......

My year old CXA 3070/ Vero 29 V1.1 DIY light is running 2.02/umol/j...and averaging about 43% efficiency....Thats great and it grows great flower, but again, already a few of the builders around here are offering more efficient output at time when the new BML light will already be underpowered compared to other commercial builders, let alone a competent DIY build....something to think about...:peace:

1) Why do people keep insisting on talking about their DIY LED products on these COMMERCIAL LED forums???
Imagine if every time you asked what the best brand of hot sauce on the market was sum yahoo kept telling you to just make your own hot sauce because it's cheaper, or even worse, he just kept bragging about how great his hot sauce was, I'm pretty sure you'd get annoyed after awhile....
Those of us who are asking about COMMERCIALLY made LED's in a forum about COMPANIES who make COMMERCIAL LED's for purchase don't really care about DIY products which is why we are NOT in a DIY forum!! OK
2) If I say "I'm not saying that you're an idiot, but..."
You know that the very next thing out of my mouth is basically going to be calling you an idiot, it's a well known "passive aggressive" technique that people use when they don't have the cojones to just say what they mean. So just say it!!
3) You say that there are companies out there that are already producing better equipment but you don't say who these companies are which would be THE ONE & ONLY thing that someone like me would actually have been interested in reading!!

I hope you don't take this constructive criticism personally....

I agree. Thing is, I don't DIY & from what's available, only a few, really not many, are offering what I imperticularly am looking for. There's some great ones that are very efficient & can bloom some bitches just fine if not better from what I here, but if I'm gonna spend that much doe, there's certain things I'm looking for that is a bit differant then most comp. offer. The Spyder isn't perfect for me but is very close. Especially the Vypr for commercial or greenhouse applications. I wish I had the time for DIY & the knowledge to get going w/o all the learning curve. Please PM me though if you think you may be able to help me prior to my purchase.

Because I was comparing the umol/ joule rating between the types of light engines. Context context context.........

Let's see any company offering a diode being run at more than 43 % efficiency.....I am not here to push a type of light... but I guess I will throw out some names to placate the masses.....

its really quite simple there are not ANY established commercial companies that care to provide a light to users that will last with decent efficiency at a reasonable price. (disclaimer there are a few new companies trying to break the price curve now with adaptations from ongoing pioneering DIY efforts).

White phosphor cob technology, grows really well and is soooooooo easy to put together. A DIY is a serious competitor to the top light grow mfgs.

so who is the idiot ? or maybe I should say who is uninformed ?

Hello Hybrid,

I actually bought one of these (Panda from China) to do a head-to-head comparison. My belief is they are Epiled's.
It's funny because those "PandaGrow" lights also caught my eye, they *look* passable.
But then reading the description - we have the usual problem with Chinese lights here.
They say "Cree, Osram, Epiled" <--- So what, which one? They're just listing a bunch of brands WITHOUT actually saying what chips they're *actually* using. Needless to say, chances are 99,99% - 100% the use Epiled or some no-name Chinese COBs. So CREE my a$$. This is why I am getting annoyed by many of those Chinese manufacturers.

Hey, let's just put an ad up...I am selling a car, it's a "Ferrari or Lamborghini or rusted 1982 Volkswagen Beetle for $500". Guess which one you may be getting?

isn't running those at 40w is what cool people on here do with their diy's ?

250 w [apparently] is a good efficiency so the Panda guy just wss telling you what he thought you wanted to hear

when in fact you probabaly should have wanted to hear they were run @ 40 w

but if they were supposed to be some othre cob brand and ended up epi's instead of cree's well that may not be great

but i understood from emails that the panda guy could make whatever chips you wanted..

seems like a pretty good light/price for a from china..that is if he will put decent cobs in em

he first told me he ran em at 100 w each cob..then said ..well i can run them at 50w

But the people from this forum make darn good looking/spec'd cob units..and the prices seem in line with the hina guy so maybe

companies from here[RIU] are the best shot

Yeah of course "if you ask them" they can (allegedly) make them with some actual, real CREE COBs...needless to say it would sure increase the price massively. And many of those companies are so shady I wouldn't even trust them if they say they put in "authentic" CREEs.
If the company would be credible they would list in plain words WHAT COBs they're using and they also would state the exact numbers of power draw. (Of course, it's not necessarily BAD if they run a 138W CREE COB at, say, 40W or 50W...many do that). They could even run them at 40W and then explain WHY this is done (because it's more efficient etc.) rather than using "big numbers" for advertising. And if a company is already so shady to begin with...well you do the math.
(And by the way, I don't think anyone who now knows a little about COBs would prefer THOSE cobs which are run at maximum, like 100W or more. It means heat, less efficiency, less life-span, I mean we all know that)

>>

Well, yup, EXACTLY. Because, you know, a 600W grow light "sounds better" than a 250W light :)

And by the way, it's really a shame because otherwise those panda lights *look* nice and even that veg switch to deactive a bunch of lights is not bad. Had they actual, genuine CREEs this would actually be some nice lights I think.

I looked at Illumitex & I discovered that their main design engineer (Nick) had left to open his own company called BML & so after comparing the two companies I went with the BML spydr600 LED...
Good luck

Does anyone know of any recent documented grows with Illumitex (Power Harvest) or Heliospectra?
Power Harvest is a greenhouse "rainy day" light, it's used best to grow pansies at 20 feet :o, and while you can grow weed with it I bet, I've been using 3 DIY based Illumitex rigs similar to the the PH for a while now, they can be very brutal on some strains and nowadays there are better options for growing MMJ. As for Heliospectra, go look up Habeeb at ICMAG. He's got experience growing with them I believe. Heliospectra is a bit overkill for most home growers IMO.

Both Illumitex and BML are/were less than honest companies though maybe Fluence, the NEW AND IMPROVED BML :), will be better.
