Leaving Carbon Filter outside question?

Finally got all my tent setup and had some questions.

4x4x6.5' tent. 600hps/mh

I was wondering why most people who has a tent leaves the carbon filter inside the tent? Does that have more benefits?

I was thinking to connect my xtrasun aircooled reflector to an exhaust fan connected outside ending with a carbon filter.

My question is when the air gets exhausted to the carbon filter into the room. Would the odor been mostly filtered or would the room smell as well?

I dont get the idea of leaving the carbon filter inside the tent filtering the air over and over.. While another fan is exhausting as well? Wouldnt the odor leave thru the other exhaust?

Please explain to me so i can get an idea on what to do.

Im working with a 6" 300CFM fan and 4" 130 CFM fan and a bathroom exhaust fan. 600 hps/mh in a glass sealed air cooled reflector.

Your filter will work on the outside, if everything is sealed properly.

However, the reason people prefer them on the inside is so that the air is filtered as soon as it exits the growroom. If you push into the filter, any leaks in ducting between the fan and filter will allow smells to escape.

There is also the fact that many filters come with a prefilter material on the outside, which can extend the life of your carbon, since it stops larger particles from getting pulled into the filter. This prefilter is useless if the filter is blown into, rather than sucked through.

If you are using 2 fans, one for the hood and one for the room, then the hood fan should be drawing air from outside the room, rather than drawing air from the grow room itself. If you are taking air from the room in 2 places, and only one is filtered, smells will escape.

I am thinking to use the bigger 3xxcfm fan to exhaust the light into the carbon filter outside the tent. Also the reflector has two openings, i will leave one opening opened allowing it to suck air form the grow tent since the reflector is covered with a glass reflector on the bottom.

And ill use the smaller 4" fan to blow free air in and maybe use the bathroom fan inside near the opening in the lreflector to cool the bulb.

Would my thoughts work?

Yep, sounds fine. As long as your ducts are well-sealed up until the filter, I can't foresee any problems with that setup.
