leaves dying

The plants are about 18" and the bigger fan leaves are dying off. They first turn kind of a copper brown with spots then dry up and fall off.

I started the plants indoors but when this started happening i transplanted them outside in a black dirt/sand loam mix. (I had a plant in the same area/dirt last year and it thrived).

I only water every other/third day. It does get fairly warm there (90°+) and is in direct sun for most of the afternoon/evening.

I've been using a general all purpose plant food about every two weeks.

I cut off the dying leaves a week ago and the plants seemed better with new growth but now back to the same.

Nute-burn?

Overstressed from heat?

underwatered ? over watered?

thanks.

are u using miracle grow? if u cant buy a ph meter they go for around 12 bucks what to do is flush the plant. If you cant get one transplant it in a bigger pot with loads of fresh soil. Then water well this should help if its nute burn or bad ph. Try and get some organic nutes the all purpose nutes are filled with chems. If u can buy some blood bone and fishmeal or some poultury manure pellets will help a lot. Organic liquid seaweed or seakelp is good to. If u can get this just mix it in ur soil before transplanting and ur good to go.

I tested my soil using a soil "test" kit and and with a cheap Ph meter and at best guess the Ph is on the high side (7.5++).

I've been watering when the top soil appears dry (usually every morning).

The soil kit also had tests for Nitro, Phos, and Potash and again at best guess those levels were Medium on the Nitro, Low on Phos, and Medium on the Potash.

The problem starts with the lower/bigger fan leaves developing brown spots (pic1) of which spreads (pic2) and turns the leaf kinda yellow and then eventually kills the leaf.
The newer undergrowth is starting to yellow.
The new growth at the very top of the plant continues to do fine.

Based on the above can anyone help with what to do next?

Please ?

thanks.

I totally second the nute burn. Are you sure that's not my plant from last week? Identical appearance...

Flush with 4 times amount of water as that of the pot and cut off the dying/dead crap or the plant will put to much energy trying to fix that that is unfixable.
