Learning to Clone and Mother

I am starting my second grow; still getting my legs under me but I am feeling more confident this year that I have some applicable knowledge.

I have some plants vegging in the shed outdoors; but in this thread I want to focus on clones. My success rate is hit-or-miss, but I got some great clones from a friend so I want to get it right.

My goal is to take a couple of pictures every day and do my best to stick to the schedule and actually WRITE DOWN what I do.

Okey dokey, so here we go:

I took these clones on New Years Day, so this is yesterday's picture:

And here's today, Jan. 3, 2008

The abbreviations are:
CAK = Cherry AK
GA = Grape Ape
BK = Big Kush
Hog
Ice

I used Olivias for the rooting (and that's what you see on top of the Rapid Rooters).
I sprayed the clones only once, on the day I cut them, and the dome with filtered water. The tray sits on a heat pad and there is indirect light from rooting plants on a shelf above the tray.

I have removed the dome twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. I shake the accumulated moisture off each time and spray it new. There are no nutes in the water, there is no water in the bottom of the tray, I do not spray the clones at all.

OK, so taking a picture every day was a bit ambitious for this smoker...here's an update:

I also took clones yesterday from some plants I grew from seed and put them in the Aerogarden. I'm gonna root them, and then change the light to 12/12 for sexing.

What's in there....oh! three Kalichakra (KC), two Hashberry, one Speed Queen and a Grape Ape clone that is giving me the blues!

Here is a sampling of the plants I took the clones from:

I love visual aids, don't you!

More tomorrow! (...I hope!)

My last post was January 6, so here we are, over a month later, and the update is positive!

Spent the weekend digging holes for a mix of strong clones and a couple of spindly cloned-too-often mothers that I am replacing.

I'm in So Cal, so according to what I've learned here, I should be able to get two harvests a year in our climate.

Hang tight for the pictures....

Take off the fan leaves? Really? Hmm.
I know about taking the fan leaves off when they are bigger, to help air flow.
And I know about taking them off during the final weeks of bloom, during the flush.

But what is the benefit of taking the fan leaves off when they are this young?

This is last of five LowRyder, grown from seed, all Meta Natural nutes.
It's still finishing, not quite purple yet, but the blooms look good...and since I didn't take any pictures of the other plants before I pulled them up!

According to my calendar, I should be cutting back the fan leaves and boosting the blooms this weekend unless the plant says otherwise.

Ok, so I'm supposed to be working on my clones and mothers, so let me get to those.....

Berryjuana clone #2 (BJ2):

Grape Ape (GA):

Berryjuana #1 (BJ1):

Sour Diesel:

Hog:

Cherry AK
:

Berryjuana (purchased clone, mother of BJ1 and BJ2):

I dipped each plant in a neem oil+anti-caterpillar solution before planting (this past Saturday). Our soil is amended (because we grow veggies in here too), but we did fill the holes with a little Foxfarm, Perlite, and mulch-mix soil. We have an existing drip irrigation system under the anti-weed (that's the white, sheet-looking stuff on the ground), it's on a timer.

On Sunday, we did some companion planting: marigolds, rosemary, cinnamon basil, heirloom tomatoes, onions and garlic (no pics yet, sorry). I still want to get some lavender, thyme and mint. Now all that should TOTALLY confuse my neighbors!

And that's all, folks! :blsmoke:

Wait, no it's not! Let me find the pictures of what's veggin in the shed...

Big Kush

New Transplants, All Clones:

Front row, from left to right: Hog, Cherry AK (CAK), CAK, Ice, Hog
Middle row: Grape Ape, Ice, Sour Diesel
Back row: Ice, Berryjuana (BJ), Diesel (D)

In the black bag? A renegade plantling from last year's harvest! We found it when we were prepping the soil a couple weeks ago, so we named it after a friend. That's Edi. Say hello! There no telling what this one will do--we had some many different strains last year, and we missed a couple of males during the learning process, so some of the early harvest was pollinated...anyway! It will be fun to see Edi grow!

Front Row: Big Kush (BK), Kalichakra (KC), and Ice (in the pink pot--this is a reveg from last year's harvest, it was less than 2 inches when we started!)
Back Row: Speed Queen (SQ), Hashberry (HB), and Blueberry (BB)

And last but not least!

Terracotta pot = SQ
Two green pots in the front = KC, HB
Two red pots in the back = Raft 1 and Raft 2

(No, they are Raft F2.)
(Grown from seed, of course.)
(Yes, from FDD)

(Yes, I will post a Raft smoke report, Hijack too.)

(When? C'mon, it took me a month to post these pictures!!)

Those poor babies along the right side? Both HB, nursing them back to health, but they may be too weak. It's a good thing I topped them! If these two die, I have a Pip for each one.
