Leaf tips are turnin brown and dying

so i just started growing and i have a plant thats only a few weeks old. its about five inches tall and i water it every 3-4 days. i noticed the bottom leaves are going yellow to brown at the tip. More so near the bottom leaves. it seems to be spreading to the top. i dosed it once with 15-15-18 nutes at a very diluted solution. I have a fan blowing on it and im currently using a metal halide light. its in soil but its just regular potting soil i got from the garden. what could i be doing wrong?

but they were turnin brown before the nutes. also could there be a deficiency even right from the beginning?

The metal hallide can be too powerfull if it`s too close to the plant when the plant is that young. Those are the symptoms of extreme light or toxic soil and poor circulation. the plants should be started under florescent tubes, not a high input distribution light , if you do use metal hillide make sure your only getting 30 watts per sqare foot

ya i did have it under a florescent earlier and it was still doing that... so it's the soil?

What soil is it? from the garden like you dug some up and put it in a pot??? Peace

yes it`s the soil, unless it`s a definciancy that`s bred into the plant, which is possible too. Or it could be bad temp and air quality, do you have a fan on it , it could be overwatering stagnit water , and it has root rot.

If its the soil from the garden then i would start again, seedling soil and multi purpose or compost and perlite would be a lot better starting with in the long run. Peace

no it was a commercial potting soil mix. some organic stuff

Thats okay then, strange problems if the soils ok, what other things, light too close, humidity, temps, seems somthing more like that then. Looks a bit small to be giving ferts too. Was the soil normal potting soil and not seedling soil as it generally should be or did you start the seedling in a jiffy cube and transplant? Maybe the soil was too strong for a seedling as it dosent look like its had an easy start too life? Peace

ya i was thinkin maybe the light was too close so i put it farther about 6". temps are fine not sure about humidity. most likely i guess it is the soil... thanks everyone for the help!

Well if it is the soil, surely it would get to a stage where it would be able to handle the stronger nutrients in it and then start growing well. Peace

hit the leafs with some h20 fine mist, everyday, and keep the surface of the soil moist with spray for a bit of humidity. Don't over water it tho, cause it could be root rot, , if that doesn't work then transplant into different commercial mix.Pce.
