will i harm my plants by removing all the fan leaves to allow more light to hit the lower buds ..

Dont do it...no reason to cut them off. Tie them back if your worried about light reaching the lower bud sites. Fan leaves are there for a reason.

Don't remove your leaves. There are styles such as SCROG where you might need to do aggressive pruning but if you are growing regular just let them do their thing. The leaves give your plant the tools to make big buds.
