LARGE Bore Tubes

Hey guys, I'm looking to get a new custom piece and a guy who I like to buy glass from recently got a lathe. He said his lathe can do up to 60mm for the top tube and up to 200mm for the bottom tube. I measured a circle with my hand and I really want something large () and I'm thinking about 170mm to 180mm. My question is do any of you guys have any experience with a tube that large? I absolutely love large tubes and need one in my collection.
Hopefully he doesn't want too too much, I only want a tube without downstem or slide plus it won't likely have any other forms of diffusion built in.

Also probably want a bent neck for this tube if the blower can do it, i'm waiting for his reply.

Also, when I look at videos of like 100mm tubes they look HUGE, but when I make a circle with my hands, measure it in inches and turn that into mm, it comes out as like 170mm. And the circles are even huge haha.
Not sure how to explain this well enough.

you want a big bong? ive never herd of bong sizes in mm. ive herd of glass thickness in mm and joint size in mm. my bong is pretty big i would say. its about 2 feet tall with a beaker bottom. the mouth piece is pretty big also compared to other bongs.

Well it's in CAN size, like stemless bong style. Should have mentioned that! Beakers are completely different.

Haha no, the nickname for the bottom tube with stemless bongs is generally called the "can."

That big ass bottom tube! But with mine I want a larger top tube and probably bent neck.

oh ok haha yeah i know what those are them its just confused me so much haha i was thinking it was that but i couldnt think of a way to explain it.
thts pretty cool but the neck is really thin... the ones ive seen are maybe 10 mm different at the most than each other. but that bowl is crazy. but i dont think it would be practical for me. a hit out of a one bowl bowl does me good enough

No way do I want a top tube that thin, it looks like crap haha.
These are the designs I came up for my blower.

Hopefully B, I like that look more.
And please excuse my horrible drawings hahaha.

Hopefully I can get something worked out with him, I'm afraid I scared him off or something with my huge tube idea ()
No one runs away from my project! :cuss: haha

Hahaha I know, he talked me down to 6", which I though was reasonable, but he hasn't replied back :wall:

180mm doesn't seem that big when I make a circle in my hands and measure it, oh well... lol

I'd be happy with 100mm

Good news! He said he looks forward to making it for me sometime next week when he gets back from a weekend vacation. I'm going to shoot for a 100mm bottom tube and the bent neck like in drawing B! Can't wait!
I wonder how much he will ask for the tube, since i'm only asking for the tube, no diffusion (well maybe ;-)), no downstem, and no slide. Since I just want this tube for my new worked downstem and slide I'm getting.

Damn even 100mm is a big can. I would go with drawing A. There is no splash up the mouthpiece with the "A" design. The "B" design can splash. More so with the downstem you have in mind. Got to make small bubbles without some sort of splash guard. Your "A" is similar to a Luke Wilson. I have one and that neck design is great.

Yep it's huge, but I love that size. Apix Design makes a lot of them but he doesn't ship to PA :(
I'll ask my blower what he thinks is best design wise, I thought the can being so big I wouldn't get much splash.

The Luke I have is a 15 tree with a diameter of roughly 80mm or so. I am just guessing looking at a ruler. The can is close to 8" tall and would defiantly splash without the mouth tube being the shape and location it is in. Your will be shorter but wider. I still worry it would splash. I'm sure your blower has some insight too though.

You don't want to go any larger than 75mm for the bottom can. You really don't even need to go anywhere near that large...
