Landrace afghani

hey man,

in the 90's there was an afghani strain that my family/friends had from a crazy old grower from america and apparently it was an old cut.
We kept the clone going for 15 years and produced massive buds with purple hairs under metal halide or under the sun. I think it was a high yielding lowland variety - it had a 2x stretch.

It was potent as but tastes harsh and earthly, it had a sweet bubblegum resin aroma to it during flower but cured out to a pungent hash smell.
didn't get any good pics of the strain though, honestly had the biggest buds I've seen.
DSC00238.jpg hmm not the greatest plant but you can kinda see the red hairs.

On the other hand I think Uzbekistan have stronger genetics Tashkent.jpg(tashkent) this is only 3 weeks into flower and is similar to my afghani in aroma and growth but this variety has way more hash potential.

It will be cool to see if your plants are afghanica and don't grow taller than 4-5ft being grown so high. You can't really get legit afghanis in seed form anymore, apart from Deep Chunk from Tom Hill.

Your best bet of finding good plants is open pollination and do a 'real' selection from the 2nd generation. It will be cool if they're low yielding hash producing plants.

I have the seeds in my possession. He also gifted me Warlock x Afghani. Probably a couple hundred of each. No restrictions, he just wants to have them available in return whenever he might need something (clone, whatever).

Anyway, if you really want to get the best possible Afghani strains, you truly do have to go back to the pre-Disco era (ie prior to 1980). That's because the Soviets invaded Afghanistan in '79 and destroyed most of the native hash production and growing. Some strains of the pre-Soviet lineage are still around, though. Supposedly "William's Wonder" and "Petrolia Headstash" represent two Pacific-acclimated pre-Soviet invasion Afghani strains, just to name two. And there are others that go back there, including the one mentioned below

Traditionally Afghan strains weren't smoked as flowers, but instead used to make hash, partly explaining why they aren't so tasty as some of the ones ganja smokers are more accustomed to.
^^^this...

The chance of finding a good Affie has been hard for the last 30 years... Better chance for a good hash line IMO would be to look to morocco, Lebanon, north India charas lines.

Beautiful. After running that afghan special, I really want to dig more into pure afghan, and indica strains. I do have some bag beans (2/3 just went in flower) of some amazing Iranian g13 from dr. Greenthumb which I hoped were selfed, don't know the babies daddy but they are looking very indica in nature.
