Know how to grow? When to SWITCH it up...

Hey all, So it's my 1st indoor grow with a 400w MH light... I have 8 plants growing well at the moment :leaf:

Just a question... When i want to eventually flower them i have a 1400w HPS :p

What light schedule should i use to get the plants used to 12/12 (like cut the light back by 2 hours every week for 3 weeks or what do you think???)

Also when do i take out the MH light (400w) and start using the HPS (1400w for flowering) exactly? before the cut back of light, during the schedule or when i get to 12/12 (dont want to shock the plants at all by suddenly switching the lights around)...

Additional Question would be how old/tall/many nodes should the plant have before i put it into flower... I have a few strains: a couple are Haze (taller) then a Malawi Gold plant, i have 2 Jack herrer crossed G13, and a Swazi bag seed.

They are obviously different sizes and i have heard when flowering age and size dont really matter its more nodes and maturity of the plant... I have lots of space just wanting to flower asap :weed:

I'm no expert, but Ive given consideration to the idea of "cutting back light before flower". While it sounds more natural I imagine it is not a good idea because:

You want tight node spacing, this is key to large harvests
You want to give the plants as much light as possible to keep the node spacing tight
cutting back hours will cause the plants to stretch more during veg due to the reduction in light
Flipping to 12/12 all at once will induce flowering as quickly as possible in order to minimize the stretch and maintain tight nodes therefore increasing yields.

This is just my thoughts on the subject, I have no actual experience regarding the issue but I trust my logic

Good luck

just whack the the HPS in and flick 12/12 there and then... It doesnt bother them
Thne point of indoor growing is to reduce time :)

Yeah as these guys said, just flip to 12/12 when you want, I only veg mine for 2 weeks but thats because i dont want huge plants. But most people i know veg for 4 weeks and flower until the plant says its ready.

when I switch to 12/12 for flower , I do it first thing in the morning all at once. Just switch the bulb and the hours to 12/12 .

Yeah seeds can take longer, i use clones so it really adds another 2 - 3 weeks onto it for the rooting of the cutting then when it has some nice roots i put it under 18 hours of light for 2 weeks or 24 hours of light if im impatient lol.

Thanks for the like aswell pal :)
