i sometimes find myself watching newer kid's cartoons and they're really not so bad. what i don't like is when they try to modernize the classics. it just sucks all the original awesome right out.

fuck that new tom and jerry shit. the old ones were funny because of the antics and the music and the simplicity. most of the characters never spoke so the cartoons could be enjoyed in any language and the focus was on the silliness and the music emphasized the action on the screen and contributed to the humor. adding dialogue really kills it for me, along with the obviously newer animation and topics.

and when they revamp the classics they take out all the guns and bombs and kablooies and violence. the saccharin violence of today's "kid" cartoons isn't all that funny. wile e. coyote getting blown up by his own dynamite, landing at the bottom of a cliff, opening that tiny umbrella and then getting pummeled with debris is funny. bugs making fudd shoot himself with his own gun or tying it in a bow or whatever is funny. looking down the barrel of a jammed gun and getting one's face blown up is funny. that shit is gone in revamps.

the new original cartoons aren't so horrible, though. they're just funny for different reasons. they don't make me laugh out loud like the old stuff did, though.

Yes i can Agree with that. Some of the newer show are Pretty good, and at the same time the old shows they Tried to modernize for kids today are just horrible. I completely agree that kids shows these days deff don't make somebody laugh like they use too, which is what made them so Awesome! I do have to say that yes they do try and make a lot of kids shows these days more Educational which i can say is something amazing. It helps some kids learn. Though kids shouldn't be watching tv all the time but some parents have different parenting than i will!

The only modern cartoons aimed at children that I love are My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Adventure Time and Regular Show.

I find this newer generation of cartoons disappointing. Courage the Cowardly Dog, Ed Edd and Eddy, Dexters Laboratory, Johnny Bravo, Samurai Jack etc. are still prime!

I remember the 90's Felix, didn't watch it too much but remember it was pretty dope.

For some reason, I'm thinking of the color yellow and a question mark lol.

I found this thread really funny because of the Yo Gabba Gabba mention in the first quote and how the other replies followed.

Cartoons, especially Bugs Bunny, et. al., have gone through wicked cycles. They were much more violent when the were showed in film intermissions, and again during the civil rights fights and the "cold war" with threats of nukes, thy got bad again in the 60s and 70s. Oh, and they were adult cartoons.

Our shows taught us life lessons and made us all the better for them - can't speak for current shows but it seems the writers did a great job of encorporating themes and ideas to really set childrens thought process off (even if through violence and dirty jokes)
