hello

those that do not know me i am one crazy ass fucker that well never stops working on skills ......all the ?s are underlined the rest is base info

i have now a 1 lb extractor system here (i understand the basics how to do it all in the passive reclaim form )
but i do have some things i am not 100% sure about so i am posting here ......i done the open tube blasting/iso/RSO....first time reclaiming in 14 days

let me say this to those that want to see me go boom and make the news for being a dumbass ........not this time i am around other ppl so it would result in other ppls death not just my own .......so please rem this and skip the bad advice this time

1 i have a system designed for 15 lb of n-butane ......but i had to get the supply in a 25 lb tank
how can i safely get 15lbs of the 25lbs into the 15lb tank
i can think of vacuuming out the 15lb tank then hooking the 15 and 25 tank together opening both valves and letting it go that way .....figure it would split the load 12.5 in each tank or i can do the dry ice on the 15 lb to fill it up .........AM I CORRECT

2 is the purge out ........at what time/psi setting do i know that most of the n-butane is out of the oil section allowing me to break it into a smaller section for heat vac it

3 i am seeing different ways of doing this .......is a scale a important item for the weighing of the tanks or going on PSI ratings the more reliable method

1:) yes it should. Keeping the tank you are filling ice cold will help as well. Reclaiming the butane will require a pump (explosion proof) or can be reclaimed with temperature differential.

2:) to each his own. I'd bubble it down as much as possible, could take a while depending of environmental variables.

3:) idk, could go either way

If that helps idk... Good luck

What about the people around you? Are they committed as you? One thing risking your own life it's another risking someone else's.
yes they are .......i am the middle man in the deal doing the processing work as the main party could not make the flight out until mid summer time

i am making a 50 foot ring of no entery once i start this .....run should be 4-6 hours even invested into a PIC cooktop for the heat control / how the heating actually works is safest i could see the heating pads have no real control

thanks ......trick i just learned when i get to the 15lb tank i should fill with a can or 2 of the 5x power swish it aroung then turn upside down and drain it out to get oils out .......i thought that was cool so i shared ........reapeat 3 times and the tank should be flushed of all oils(the bad kind)

Working on skills is a seriously good thang, but crazy ass is over rated with explosives..............

Please peruse the attached:

Just so we are on the same sheet of music, a tank designed to hold 15 lbs of LPG is actually 120% of that capacity for safety sake. Since they are typically rated in water weight, a 15lb tank would be listed as a 31 (30) lb tank. 15lb divided by .601 n-Butane specific gravity, divided by .80 safety factor, = 31 lbs.

That said, if you stick the receiving tank in ice water and the other tank in 110F water, the butane well seek the colder tank. You can also use dry ice, but take a look at the subzero temperature rating of carbon steel tanks and their valve seals, typically no lower than about -40C.

2 is the purge out ........at what time/psi setting do i know that most of the n-butane is out of the oil section allowing me to break it into a smaller section for heat vac it

What system do you have? That makes a big difference.

In a Terpenator, with a Haskel, at about -10" the visible butane is typically gone, and we pump to -22" Hg before switching to the Vaccon and pulling it -29.5" and holding until it solidifies into cotton candy, before back filling with N2.

With a VaporHawg attached, it will pull 28" Hg with the pot still half full of butane, soooo watching what is going on with the lid sight glass, works better than watching a vacuum gauge.

Above in blue....

You need a scale. PSI is not reliable, because it depends heavily on temperature and you need to maintain the 20% safety margin to allow for rapid thermal expansion.

Be safe, have fun, and bon appetite! Hardly anything more satisfying than whomping up your own good thang, as long as you stay whole in the process!

ok let me ask this

is a bathroom scale good enough .......or do i need something better like a meat/seafood scale

it has been years since i been on a bathroom scale are they still the same with a screw in the back that lets u zero (ie i can set it on the scale and zero it out so it account for the tank i only weight the butane in it )

and u are telling me to fill it only 80% .......for me i want it to weight 12 lbs

now given that can i just link the tanks the 15lbs is under a -30 psi .........and let it spilt the load of the 25lb tank

you need a scale. digital that weighs in grams . that way you can load just what you need for your run into your transport/recovery tank. and leave the rest in the bulk tank

How are you determining the capacity of your tank?

now given that can i just link the tanks the 15lbs is under a -30 psi .........and let it spilt the load of the 25lb tank
I suppose it depends on the bathroom scale. Mine is about 6 lbs off at 190.

We use a refrigeration scale. Any scale with they capacity and accuracy would work. It also depends on how you are using them. If you are using them to preserve the 20% safety factor, you can tolerate more error than if you are trying to determine if you have recovered 100% when doing passive recovery, where 0.1lb makes a difference.

thank u man

if u ever need a stil hand to run off a batch mash .....call me i will do ti for free (just some product testing make sure my rep can attach to it)

like this the 5000g one 11lbs for $130. might be your best option.
thank u too i did not see your post untill this afternoon .........i think the one with the wire and hand metter might work better ( i am 36 but the ppl on site are in late 50/60s so save their backs)
