So just as an experiment i followed uncle bens method of getting 4 main colas by waiting til the plant was at the 5th node and cutting above the 2nd leaving 4 main growth tips. problem is, where i cut the stem it seems to be hollow and you can see nearly to the bottom of the plant. can i seal this hole somehow or should i just leave it? The plant in question is a white widow btw.

I don't think that you can necessarily clog it with anything. I suppose if anything you can use a fan leaf and stick the stem in there. I'm pretty sure that it will close up over time, but I'm not a 100% sure on that.

How late did you wait until you did the topping? Sounds like you waited a long time into veg before you topped.

about 3 weeks, until the plant had more than 5 nodes which uncle bens guide recommends, i like the fan leaf idea, i might give that a go if it looks like moulds gonna get in there, thanks

Glad I could help.

If it's only been 3 weeks then I don't think that you should have a problem. Take a pic of her once you put the fan leaf in the top - that should look interesting.
