Just starting really

Alright, so the economy is flying down the crapper fast. I figure the only safe field is things what keep ppl's mind off of they're problems. I myself might lose my job in the next few months. Once I get out of a DOT sensitive position, I'd like to get into some good smoke again.

I smoked a grip when I was younger, even tried to growing a few times. Plants always came up too spindly... too much water, feed, light. Too much... 'babying'. Plus my damn cat ate a few of my sprouts.

Since then I've grown several vegetable type plants for cooking and my herps (reptiles). Had much luck with 48" Fluorescents. But just recently I picked up some HPS lamps and bulbs. Designed for streetlight usage, but easily converted.

Placed an order with Attitude last night. Some Buddha dwarfs I think... hell if I know. But apparently I get some free seeds too. Don't know much about breeds and crap, but I figure the free seeds are probably less important then the purchased ones. So I'll start with them.

I've had luck with wet paper towel germination and small greenhouse box sprouting before, so I think I'll start there. Probably with some of those jiffy cup thingies. Going to use fluorescents for sprouting, 18hour cycle. Used that with the majority of my veggies, had good luck.

Plan on using soil, as I tend to tinker too much with hydroponics... Killed a whole crop of tomatoes... Irritated me.

Going to start small, hopefully all five of those free seeds sprout. Wife doesn't know yet, so I wanna take small bites at her till she complies.

Fin to make a small single area grow box, like the 'grow closet' I saw here somewhere. Utilizing tracks and rails, I plan on making the lights raise and lower depending on the current cycle. As I said before the HPS will be my main gun, but I plan to rig up some CFL's to put out some blues in the mix.

I'll put up some pic's when I get to that stage. Plan to use this thread as a diary following my progress and as an area to catch suggestions.

Anyhow, Mundane real life crap calls to me.

Later

Ah, thats right. I read that in the description. Didn't know what it meant but after reading some, now I see. So there will be no need for me to 'trigger' the bloom cycle?

Nice, I guess... easy

But addicting? How?

alright, so I was pulling apart these HPS fixtures I got, when I noticed its only rated for 100 watts. Would this, combined with say.... four sets of CFL's work in a 2'X2' floor area box? My floor plan is simple. 2L X 2W with the HPS suspended center. My CFL's will be Suspended at four corners slightly lower than HPS fixture. All fixtures will be lowered or raised depending on needs.

woah, so okay. Life side tracked me a little, but I'm keepin' on.

Got my seeds in the mail... silly little deal they got going, but the 100% cotton tricky works well for work, so what the hell. (covert simply for kicks)

Put two of em into two baggies with paper towels. One free skunk seed, one white dwarf auto flower deal. Soaked em till I had some puddle, blew some air in there, sealed em up with sharpie labels. Snuggled those prized buggers up nice and cozy like INSIDE my PC. Right up under my graphics card.

mmmm... toasty....

Checked em yesterday, had some condensation going on. Opened em and blew some fresh air in there... Don't wanna rot them sweeties. Let em sit open for about an hour... little mist from my lizards mr. mister... tucked em back in.

Got home from work today, hit up a few of my daily chores round the house... decided to take a peek (couldn't help it!).

Thumb screw... second thumb screw... little prying and a lot of cussing... pop goes the side of the PC... more condensation... hmmm... better take a look inside... Open bag one, give it a fresh blow, pull out soggy paper... UN-do some folds...... and.... CRACK! nice little root right there! SICK!

So, skunk popped! Successful germ!

Now, to the money.

Another blow, soggy, blah blah... and there! Small crack! SHES TRYIN!

HUZZAH!

Two seeds, Two perfect germs! 100%!

So I packed em back up with some fresh air and a little quick mist.

Nice

Gonna let em get some solid roots showing before I put em in these little... cone... spongy thingies I got to clone some of my veggies last year. The worked pretty good as clone mediums, and I even started a few seeds in em before... germ and all.

I have a small clone tub set up for a few of my houseplants, pix'll go up later, but I figure a small tray in there with the clone... tub in a tub? (forget it, I'll get pics... confusing to describe) and that's my sprouting home.

(alright, pix'll be a minuet... gotta charge up some batteries)

Suffice to say it should be a good area, I'll let you guys comment.

Now, the wait continues.... good thing I got serious shit in my life to deal with... works as a good distraction to curb my enthusiasm.

anyway, Until the next update, This has been your average Joe Nub reporting to you from here.

Right next to the roaches...

Inside box, I know... oooohhh tin foil = BAD, right? Don't worry... it'll be gone and replaced with a nice white matt latex. Other tub is drying.

We got philidendrum, bamboo, some cool purple fuzzy plant, and some broad leaf plant I got for my wife. Oh, and ghetto co2.

Bubbles and root plugs. Works really well actually. Difficult to re-use though. A few of em lost their bottoms there... eh, still works.

These are the plugs. Don't remember how or where I got em, but I got a bag of em in my garage.

Gunna drop em right in there. That'll be their little base.

Alright, I'm out... got an MRI I need to have done tomorrow... (Insert scary creepy graveyard music here.)

Alright, So it's been two weeks now since they've cracked. Unfortunately the dwarf I germed got cooked. (seriously... cooked... like... pinto beans or something) In the process of sprouting another seed. Already cracked and showing four leaves.

Now, to the skunk. She is doing great. Still in the clone box, but with four lights now, instead of the one shown in previous pics. It was really stretching, so I figured she really needs more light.

Since she stretched so far from the plug, I decided to put her in a pot with some soil. Till the roots really get going and her trunk gets good and thick. Plus, my aero box isn't quite ready yet. Still need a few more mods to it before its ready to fire up. I'll get pics of it up later.

But back to the plant, ever since I put the four lights in and the pc fan blowing on her she's really squatted out. I'm Lovin' it. But, you judge for yourself. Few pics;

Two inches tall with three tiers already. Starting on four actually.

Her spread. Sorry for shitty focus, my good camera is charging, so I busted out my pocket clicker.

Tell me what you think so far

BTW; MRI is clean, nothing growing in my head, just something growing in the closet.
